Transmitter question

I have a spectrum dx7s version 1. I am trying to assign a switch to A3 super 3 gyro for flight mode. I am not able to do this. I can change flight modes and other functions. Receiver is a AR636. I was told by someone that a ver.1 would not allow this function. Any help will be appreciated.
