  • No more rates or expo in new A3S3 config?

Have 2 new A3S3's, in the instruction manual on page 13 under RADIO TAB (PROGRAMMING THE CHANNEL ASSIGNMENT IN SOFTWARE) the right hand side of page has RATE/EXPO column with numerous channel drop downs, etc. My config software does not have this section. The software is the newest, V2.5 Does this mean I use my radio to set expo now?

On all my gyros, I set rates and expo on the TX. It's far easier to do and far easier to change.

So by doing Tx rates and expo, it doesn't interfere with the gyro's ability to 'swing out' the moving surfaces as needed? The instruction manual state not to, but if they don't give me the selective rate inputs, I'll be counter slapping the sticks in panic mode. This is what happened to my first gyro experience. BTW, thanks for quick reply.

I have not found the HobbyEagle to be adversely affected by changing rates and expo in the TX. Having said this, some gyros (eg. Spektrum AS3X/SAFE) advises not the reduce rates below 50%, but the gyro in those RXs utilized different programming and sensors to work the way they do.
I think anytime you reduce rates to a significant extent, like in the Spektrum example, it's far better to do it manually via the control rod location holes in the servo arm and control arm. IE, to reduce rates to a more desirable level, put the servo rod in a hole closer to the servo and an a hole on the control arm that's further from the control surface. Changing expo in the TX in the usual range between 5% and 30% (or so) isn't going to adversely affect the way the HE gyro works.

The gyro doesn't know the difference between half-stick at 100% rate or full stick at 50% rate.

Set it in the TX and don't worry about it. Once you decide what you need for the plane and your flying style, make the adjustments mechanically as xviper suggested so as to get the maximum resolution in the signal sent from the transmitter.
