    RX600SP’s “Recovery” mode

Can the RX600SP’s “Recovery” mode be used for attitude hold, similar to 3D mode? For example, can it maintain a knife-edge or hover, or is it strictly designed to recover the aircraft to a straight-and-level position?

I have used many of the Lemon equivalents to this RX. Motion commissioned Lemon to make the Admiral RXs in hopes of adding something "better" and different. The fact that they stopped selling Admirals and have gone with the Lemon units directly may be an indication that the original purpose was less than satisfactory.
"Recovery" mode is similar to "Auto level", "SAFE" in other gyros. When engaged, it will level the plane and make it fly straight and level, in most gyros, making the control surface sticks ineffectual. IE, NO, it won't help you hold a knife edge or hover. For that, the gyro needs to have the ability to allow you to select "Heading Hold" type of gain. I do not believe the RX600SP is one of those. Once, Motion sold the "HobbyEagle" gyro that could be programmed for things like "hover" and HH. You may be better off looking for either a flight controller that can do these things or look at something like the "Aura8" (from Flex Innovations), however, you would need to acquaint yourself as to how to program it via a PC. Or you could just buy a pre-programmed one that they install into their Twin Otter, 3D plane. I have the Flex TO and with the stock gyro, it is a remarkably talented 3D plane.
