  • New Real Flight Sim

Got an e mail from Real Flight regarding their new Sim coming out this month. Looks great, any info on it?? Will Motion be offering it for sale??

RealFlight is the best RC flight simulator new RC pilots can use when learning to fly RC airplanes and RC helicopters. Experienced RC pilots love this flight sim to practice new maneuvers and hone their skills to become even better pilots!

I haven't seen anything other than the video. Last year a friend gave me Realflight 3, it can't be upgraded. I'll be buying this once it comes out so I have something more current.

Looks like RF-X is out. And available from multiple vendors including MotionRC .
However based on my reading of rcgroups and Knifeedge it sounds like I will be holding off for a patch or two. Many of the features we have come to expect in Realflight are not activated in the initial release . And also seems the graphics engine needs some optimization .

We are carrying it, but I haven't tested it yet. I look forward to doing so. I fly both Phoenix and Real Flight with my students. Both have Pros and Cons. I'm confident RF-X will get the same high level of development support.

I am relatively new to R/C aircraft. My club is the Colorado River Aircraft Pilots Society located in Fort Mohave, Arizona. I have some comments on flight simulators. My current version is Real Flight Basic and have been using it for about two years on and off. Tried to upgrade to Real Flight RF-X, but my computers are not capable of using this new software. Any suggestions on R/C simulator software that has worked well for you?

First welcome to Hobby Squawk...I used Real Flight 7 and liked it a lot, ran good on an older PC.

I've been reading about a lot of issues with RF-X, my circle of fiends are recommending staying 2itrh RF 7.5 for now.

I purchased it and promptly returned it. They did not think this one through very well. The requirements are very hard to meed. I recently purchased a new lap top with four-dual processes and it still would not run very well. I am staying with 7.5 for now.

I use both RF 7.5 & Phoenix 5.5l without any issues & I like them both. With Phoenix, an RCG member, rickp, has created many popular recent models & some old timers/rare models that are not available from Phoenix & they work quite well. With RF 7.5, I like to be able to do some editing on the flying sites that is much easier than the Phoenix Builder which is a nightmare if you are not a computer geek. I have a fairly powerful gaming computer & so far, what has been reported with the new RF-X, I'll stay with what works flawlessly for now.

TiredIronGRB and others, thanks so much for your replys to my question. Your comments are important to me. RF-X goes back on Monday. RealFlight 7.5 will work on my current hardware...I think. That's what I plan to purchase. RealFlight basic was and is a powerful training tool for me as a beginner. I am a few clicks above beginner now. My basic training airplane is a Hobbyzone Super Cub S. I am on my second Hobbyzone Super Cub S. Today was the first time I have flown in six months and did not crash or ruin my propeller. Absence from flying caused by our move to Arizona this summer. Also, I am training myself to move from using tips of my thumbs to control the sticks to using my thumbs and index finger. I built a wooden tray that hangs around my neck to hold my transmitter. I will send photos if anyone is interested. Anyway the whole rig works wonderful.

Today I went to the AMA conversation in Ontario CA. I ran across 5 vendors selling Realflight products. NOT one of them had RFX. (not that that means anything, just found it interesting)
I will be giving it a try when my new laptop shows up. It has one of the new GT 1070 graphic cards so "should" easily exceed the requirements of the software.

Hi Spurr Pote, welcome to the forum!
You're starting out the exact same way I did three years ago, with a HZ Super Cub and a RF 7.5.
Some quick advice, be prepared for the prop torque which will tend to want to pull any tail dragger to the left, correct with right rudder. Control your descent with throttle, although the Cub will virtually need no throttle when landing, it's something you have to be aware of for future planes.
The one thing about the cub, if its the same one I have, it doesn't have ailerons so the controll stick layout is different than anything else you'll fly on the future, so you are best to get into the next plane once your confidence is reached with the Cub and then adjust to the 'normal' layout.
Lot's of options there, the Apprentice is great, we have one of those that the wife owns, or my (and a heck of a lot of people on this forum) personal favorite, the Pandora.
I too use thumb and index finger instead of thumb tips, I was taught that way and like it, others I know fly with thumbs and thats fine, I like index/thumbs better.
I prefer that the radio is in my hands, no strap or anything, again, just personal.
Now, the other thing that you may be thinking of down the road is a better (bigger) radio. I went with the DX6i and ended up buying a DX 8 because I wanted to put a gyro in my planes and needed the extra channel, so think about what you are going to want to do before making any large purchases.
The good news is that once you've got it, its like riding a bike. Two major influences in getting ahead in this hobby were going to 1st U.S R/C Flight School

if you are interested. You can also check out your local AMA airfield as well some great guys and insight there.
And, without a doubt, this forum. Guys like Warbird Charlie,Pilot Ryan(Ramzay) and Captain Mike were there at the drop of a hat to help me out, along with everyone else, the guys are awesome here. Also, going to Nefi at AMA HQ in Muncie and getting to meet some of the guys personally was an awesome experience, not only socially but informationally as well.

Very telling that RealFlight vendors at AMA gathering were not selling RF-X. Grossman56 your sage advice is very helpful. Thanks to all

Yea guys please, please read the requirements that they list you need for a PC. This simulator requires a very high ended PC and even then you will have to do some graphics drops. At this point to what I have been told all hobby stores can not run this program on their system for people to see and test. So at this point I have not heard of how good this really is. I might see if I can get a copy and try this out.

I was never a simulator guy. When I started learning to fly, there were no computer flight sims, there weren't even buddy boxes. My father would stand behind me and yell "GIVE IT TO ME NOW", followed by the inevitable sound of splinters flying through the air. I did eventually learn to crash pretty well though. RF-X needs a top of the line system to be able to run it, and I hope that, for all of that, it has a thought controlled processor and you can fly the plane with your brain. It sure seems like a waste if it just your run of the mill flight sim for those kind of requirements. Anyway, kick it around Delizar, see what you think and let the guys know!!

I've been reading that RF-X is missing some features that have many people ticked off as to why they are not there. I'd have to go back and dig up what is missing but it seems to me like this might not have been a fully finished product and they wanted to get it out the door.

RF-X is like the Affordable Care Act. Obama said you can always use your own doctor. RF-X was not ready for release. I'll bet when Great Planes get's it right we, who use simulators, will love it...maybe?

I was seriously thinking of giving it a try just to see the difference, but now, I think I'll hold off. Better things to spend my hard earned bucks on.

I was thinking about RF X but after hearing the initial reviews I am going to hold off. I still use RF 7.5 which I like but the sim that I have been spending the most stick time on lately is Aerofly RC 7. Wow is that an awesome sim. The only thing negative is there's no open source community offering new add-ons for aircraft and scenery like RF's Knife Edge Swap Pages. I had to buy the Ultimate version which has all kinds of aircraft and very cool scenery. Something to look into...
