Depends. What kind of paint and how big of an area? Is this for a model or some larger project? There are solvents that work pretty well on smaller areas but if you’re stripping a large area or furniture with grooves and carvings you can get reallly good results with various purpose strippers from your local hardware store. Some projects can also be accomplished by mechanical means, ie. sandpaper, grinder, sandblasting, pressure washer, etc....

I believe the active ingredient in paint stripper has been much reduced. Nitromors is crap compared to what it was. I bought a heavy-duty paint stripper from a local automotive paint supplier in Chester, which was £30 a gallon that worked well. There is Starchem Synstryp.
Personally, I think it's great to have your kids involved, but maybe painting not paint stripping is more appropriate. As adults, we have to protect ourselves from this stuff.
