  • Ducted fan design

I am going to try a 70 mm ducted fan on a Multiplex Funjet. After some research I have found-  1. The thrust tube length should not be more than 3 times the fan diameter. The length may be adjusted to move the motor for balance. 2. The cross section area of the thrust tube may taper down to 85% to 90% of the area of the fan. 90% seems to be best. A fast food soda cup is perfect to make a thrust tube from. Be SURE it is PERFECTLY aligned with the fan unit. 3. The entrance must be, at least, the same area as the fan. Some fan units don't have a lip around the entrance. Adding a lip increases low speed performance, somewhat. This info is from research, not actual experience....yet. Have fun! The Doctor
