  • looking back on my painting projects

This is a look back over the last two years of learning how to paint a foam airplane. I will leave out all of the mistakes parts to spare you.
My First project for a kid that I taught to fly, who crashed ,so I repaint it.

All of these planes have a "Minwax" coating base of at least three to six coats. All are painted using Rustoleum 2X paint. All of my graphics are from "Callie Graphics". I find for me the Rustoleum clear coat works best, two to three coats. Yes there was alot of prep after removing the decals , sanding and filling. I use YELLOW "Frog" low tack tape to mask the plane. I also use a heat gun set on low to remove my tape.

The two T-28 Trojans , are from two civilian planes I found on Goggle.

Each plane has been a learning experience for me and I try to do different things with the next plane to try new stuff.

Those all look great! It certainly shows when you take your time and do it right. Did you notice any performance loss in the A-10 and did you happen to take a before and after weight on any of the larger models? I am thinking of a couple repaints this winter and am curious. Thanks!!

Thanks, no difference I noticed in the A10 performance, which was a surprise for me. Maybe I did that one right I don't know, but she flew very well and fast and landing was NO problem for me with this plane. No I don't weigh my planes, I just try to wet sand ALOT to keep my weight down.

Incredible work! Some of your tips really helped me out when working on my Cherokee project this fall, which reminds me that I need to post the pictures.
