The name "spam" for such emails derives from the Monty Python "Spam" sketch of some 50 years ago. That sketch was set in the mythical Green Midget Cafe supposedly in the real town of Bromley, UK. (This is mentioned if you watch to 2:05 near the end of the sketch).
I was born in Bromley. I don't recall many Vikings, though.
