Are there some instructions or a video somewhere that explains how to apply the FlightlineRC decals? My P-38 and Spitfire are looking a little plain at the moment.

DK........They are pretty straight forward once you know what application media they are. The actual decal is sandwiched in between the thicker backer paper(white) and the thinner top cover(clear plastic). Cut the decals to size for appropriate application handling. Just peel the backer paper off and then press the decal in place. Rub the decal(letters and images only) to firmly affix them to the model surface. Gentle pull the clear top cover off the decal at 180 degrees from the side you are pulling from.
That's it and just use patience. It took me almost 3 hrs to get ALL those little buggars onto the Lightning.
Best regards,Warbird Charlie

All the decals in my P-38 Allied Green version were/are the PSA(pressure sensitive adhesive) type that I described on post #3. NONE were waterslide. The No Step on the canopy(that you video reference) is already applied. Just GIT R DONE and don't overthink this.;)Originally posted by dkalwishky View PostI now remember seeing the decal application in the P-38 build video.
Toward the end of the decal section, when working on the canopy, the person puts the no step decals in water and slides them off. That's different from the other decals that are shown.Warbird Charlie

The large decals consisting of all the squadron logos, etc., are vinyl press and stick, and have a top clear later that needs to be removed very carefully after applying the decals. However, like was already said, the prop decals are waterslide. The rest of the decorative small decals like "no step", etc., are all waterslide as well. For all the waterslide decals, I brushed over the top of them (just a tad over where the logo ends to prevent lift-up) with a Waterbased clear coat in satin/matte finish. This helps prevent them from lifting, especially on the propellor decals.

Here you go. The trick is to give them a few hours to dry then spray some clear coat over them.Originally posted by TiredIronGRB View PostThe only waterslides in mine were the prop decals and they didn't last long (flaked off after a few run ups).

I have not used the flight line decals, but I have used other vinyl decals. You can use soap water with them even if they are not water slide. Just wet the surface your going to apply and/or the sticky back of the decal. It will allow you to slide it into the spot you want it. Then ever so gently place a dry paper towel on it to "wick" up the water. When you can tell its no longer able to slide, gently began pressing the decal down using a one direction motion to "squeegee the water out from under it".

I thought I'd let you guys know that I got the decals applied to my Spitfire a few weeks ago, they look pretty nice and it was pretty simple. I took my time and enjoyed the process. I used an X-ACTO knife to remove the clear part of the decal once it was on the plane (I saw that in the P-38 build video).
The page that comes with the plane was a little off with the invasion stripe placement on the fuselage so mine isn't quite right. The two decals are supposed to meet each other on the seam on the bottom of the fuse, that is not shown in the instructions so I have mine up higher on the fuse than they should be. I know it's wrong and it's bugging me a lot but those that have seen the plane didn't know it's wrong and thought the plane looked nice. I might order a spare fuse and decal set this winter and redo it so it's right, it being wrong is bugging me. :)
One thing I learned is for me it'll be much easier to get the decals applied before putting the plane together. Next up it to get the decals on the P-38, this might be challenge as the plane is big and awkward to move around one the table.

Yes I have the same OCD about decal placement as I try to get them perfect and when I don't I get that little frustration knot in my stomach. I did find putting them on first before any assembly was much easier so good point on that. Now if my Therapist can just teach me it's OK if they are not perfect I'll be better off.

One thing about any decals that are water slide (like the prop decals for the FlightLineRC P-38). Once they are applied and have dried, it's good to run some decal setting solution over them. For the past several years I've been using a product called Walther's Solvaset (click). A light coat of this brushed over the decals will actually get them to fully snuggle down to the applied surface and provides extra adhesion.Pat
