  • Understanding Brushless Motor numbers

Hi Folks Just sitting here in the wet Canadian north contemplating brushless motor numbers. I understand that the KV rating means max. RPM per volt available to an unloaded motor.
I also understand that the higher the amperage the more power she will be putting out. Amperage x volts = power in Watts.
If I see motor described as 3648-770KV how do I interpret this? Could someone help?
    Thanks!

There is no hard-and-fast rule, as the numbers can mean different things. The 36 can represent diameter, either of the whole motor, or just the stator, and the 48 can mean the length of the motor less the shaft, the length of the moving outer casing, or the length of the stator. Basically, you have to consult a data sheet for that manufacturer, if you can find one.

Ok, wow, so its not necessarily a universal numbering system then! If I really want to know I have to find out how the manufacturer likes to number their motors.
      Thanks for the info. WintrSol

        Greetings Bluebird,

WintrSol pretty much nailed it in his explaination.
However, FYI, pictures as they say are worth, well, a bunch of words.

Hello Rocketeer Thanks very much for that video, it explains things =
very well and adds nicely to what WintrSol had told me. Really =
          appreciate it.

I encourage anyone who is not up to speed on motor numbering to watch =
the video sent to me by Rocketeer in the e mail below.
