  • National Model Aviation Day Success!!

    Greetings Gang,

Just thought I'd jump on here and take a moment to share how proud I am of our little RC Club.

Yesterday, we - The Chisholm Trail RC Squadron - hosted the 3rd Annual National Model Aviation Day, Wounded Warrion Project fund raiser / fun fly!!
Well, it was the 3rd year that the event has been held, but it was our club's 1st time to participate.

We are a small club with approximately 30 "members", and like most clubs, of the 30 we have 8-10 regular pilots/flyers.

During yesterdays' event I am happy to say that we had over 25 participating RC pilots, including pilots from other area clubs, all contributing to the very worthy  cause of expanding the general publics knowledge of model aviation and more importantly providing support for the Wounded Warrior Project.

We were extremely pleased that there were many first time RC Piloting lessons being provided. We had four RC training pilots and aircraft on hand specificfied for training opportunities and all received quite a workout. I know I ran at least 16 LiPo packs through my Flyzone Sensei FS!!!

All in all it was an absolutely fantastic day...... Lots of pilots, family, friends and budding pilots both young and old!!!

As President of our little club I want to re-iterate that I couldn't have been more proud of our members on hand and of everyone who gave of their time and efforts toward supporting our event!

At the end of the day we all gathered around as I signed a check made out to the Wounded Warrior Project for $1,165.00!!!!

Not bad for a little RC Club in just about no where, Oklahoma!!!

    Hey Rocketeer,

As a vet myself I would like to say great job and thank you. Our wounded vets need all the help they can get.

          Great Job Bill!
And to your club, what a great way to spend a day.  We were at the Local  Wings and Wheels Airshow with our club, the LHS  had a small display and two other people besides ourselves had planes on display.  Kind of a poor showing, I'm going to have to see about next year, how far is Oklahoma!!

Still wish there was something we (The HobbySquawk Flyers) as a group could do to contribute to such a worthy cause.

Bill, that is an amazing thing you've done and you and your club and everyone involved should be commended! Our military servicemen and servicewomen are very close to our hearts and it is always nice to see an outpouring of support for them in any and every way.

                    Hello Bill,
Very commendable achievement accomplished by your Chisholm Trail members. Wish that I could say that our club had that much success with our efforts in raising financial support to such a worthy cause. The funds we did raise was nice, but being able to do like what you did would have put a monster grin on this vets face.
I would appreciate you sharing with me via a brief email what you consider was the one or two key reasons that your small club was able to achieve that level of success. As I wrap up almost a year wearing the VP cap for the first time at our small club, I would like to explore more/better creative ways to get higher levels of involvement into the RC sport which ultimately could turn into an achievement like what your crew did.
                    Best Regards,
                    Warbird Charlie

RE: National Model Aviation Day Success!!

                      Greetings Gang,

Thank you so very much for your kind words.
I know our club members will appreciate them as much as I do.

Already being so proud of everyone and their efforts, this evening we held our monthly meeting and I was so blessed by what happened that I hope you'll indulge me a moment as I share.

I was sitting at our officers table preparing my notes for the meeting and was approached by one of our elder members (one of the original founders of the club in 1976).
He said that he was extremely sad that he was unable to attend Saturday's fund raiser due to the very hot weather and his inablilty to cope with it being 82 years old. Of course this is a common occurrence for him on hot days and no one was surprised when he didn't attend and it was understood.

He began to explain how important he felt our event was and how proud he was that we participated in such a worthy cause. I of course told him that I believed our efforts were a success and he said that he had heard from many that very same story. He said that while he couldn't attend the event he felt he wanted to contribute. I said it was not a problem and that we could surely use him next year.

He smiled and said, "Bill, I'm not sure I can wait that long." He then leaned over the table and handed me a personal check made out to the Wounded Warrior Project in the amount of $1,000.00!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I was speechless....... to tears.

You know, regardless of the crazy things that go on in our world each and every day, there are moments like these when our faith in people is once again restored and we lean back, take a deep breath and think, maybe it ain't so bad........

                      Thanks for listening

                                Greetings,

We all just need to stay focused on doing our individual parts in order to maintain some level of balance in a world gone crazy.

I don't know about you guys, but a little thing like this forum saves me some days from a melt-down.

                                I thank you.......
