Mine favorite warbird movies are The Battle of Britain, Redtails, and Fly Boys.

Along with those already mentioned, some great ones are "Tora! Tora! Tora!" & "Midway" which didn't rely on CGI.

Tora, Tora, Tora! Classic. Chilling final lines at the end of the movie, which turned out to be prophetic.

Kind of off the beaten path, but there is a 1943 movie called simply "Air Force". It's in black & white, and chronicles a B-17 crew, mostly. Of note, there is some footage of the P-39 Airacobra in it. One of my favorite planes, right behind the P-38...

If you like the T6 "A Yank in the RAF" has a great scene at the beginning. After that spits and hurri's along with their adversaries make plenty of appearances.

The Battle of Britain is my all time favorite along with Midway. I have these and when I need a "fix" I watch both in HD on a wide screen monitor. I just love those Spitfires and Hurricanes. Hey, how about having Flight line do a Spit in the Battle of Britain colors. This is likely to be a big hit with all of us.

Yes, that's a heck of a movie!! What they needed to do was make a movie about the three B17s that they used. Martin Caiden wrote a book called "Everything But The Flak" which tells the tale of them resurrecting three old B17s and flying them to England to make 'The War Lover".

Great book if you can get your hands on it. Mine is falling apart and I haven't been able to find another copy.

Battle of Britain! God I've had that movie in every format, I swear. Recently I found that a big chunk of the fighters used in that movie are in Texas, owned by one of the fellows who took them because the movie company couldn't afford to pay him. He's selling them off now as he's reaching that point in life and he hasn't anyone to carry on. It's amazing to see the Me109s and Spitfires just sitting there, mostly disassembled, but what a restorers dream. He has the two seat Me and Spitfire as well, too cool!

G'day gang,
I agree with all of the above but if I may be allowed to expand the theme just a little, nothing beats 12 o'clock high [even if you do have to watch the same aircraft with the footage reversed] and Baa Baa Black sheep with all its mistakes and poetic licence.
I can not tell you how many dollars of my internet load goes on watching those old TV series.
The War Lover was on TV here just recently but I can not tell you if it was pay or free to air. But it is still a classic good old movie. No swearing everyone dies 'clean' and there is a moral to the story. And it had one of the best actors of all time.
May I also nominate 'Reach for the sky.' The Kenneth Moore movie on Sir Douglas Bader. I think Kenneth Moore was the first of the modern type actors and anything thing that he was in is worth while watching. Kenneth Moore was the best actor of his day.

One of my favorites is The Great Waldo Pepper.

And the pilot for Black Sheep Squadron... the early scene with the P-40 coming straight at you on the big screen in the theater really set the movie up.

Not a movie, but the documentary B25 Mitchells do fly in IMC is one of my favourites as well as just about all those movies mentioned above. It's the story of ferrying a group of B25s from the states to the UK for the filming of the movie Hanover Street. Though there's some bits of "dramatisation for effect" there's a lot of great air to air footage with appropriate music. The UK mini series "Airline" made in the 80's featuring Dakotas is great too, especially since as a small boy I peered through the airport boundary fence watching some of the filming.

Actually I just watched Reach For the Sky again yesterday, good old Douglas Bader, they broke the mold after him. Kenneth Moore is one of my all time favorites, just watch him walk, its hard to believe he didn't really have 'tin legs'
