I would like to know what everyone thinks of the YF-23 Black Widow ll the former Competitor to the now famously know F-22 Raptor being a freewing motion RC Jet. The YF-23 was much faster and stealthier then the F-22 raptor but it lost the Government contract to build it because of the cost of manufacturing so I thought it would be a very cool Idea to recreate this little know 5th Generation Advanced Tactical Fighter from American Aviation history As a new Freewing twin 90mm 12s 8s or 6s version Motion RC jet this year any takers of the idea please leave your comments and likes to let me know what everyone thinks of the idea because im trying to raise public support for it in the motion RC community and by the way I'm a fan of the Freewing F-22 Raptor as well;)) but to be able to get my hands on a YF-23 Black Widow ll Freewing motion RC jet would be Awesome!!!! Because the Jet is a rarity in the RC community as a 90mm No one has done it before.

Twin 90s in general are a rarity in the RC community, unless you count scratch or plan built.Originally posted by StarFox View Postthe Jet is a rarity in the RC community as a 90mm No one has done it before.
I'm a big fan of how the YF-23 looks compared to the Raptor. Though the only option available as an ARF is the twin 70mm by bananahobby:
Buy RC airplanes online at Banana Hobby. Discover the latest electric RC planes, EDF jets, turbine jets, gas aircraft, warbirds, gliders, LiPo batteries & spare parts.
A twin 80 would be a cool offering, and in the same class as the A-10 and F-14

I know Dee your right I've heard of twin 90mm's only onces with J.P. hobbies Twin 90mm 6S's that's why I know twin 90's would be a big hit with Motion R.C. as a freewing in the RC community plus we've all seen the amazing talent of Alpha and the motion RC team if we the fans can think of it they can build It so why not give it a try because no one else has really resurrected this this powerful ATF from the pages of history and gave it true justice as America's fastest and most stealthy ATF.

This is my favorite jet of all time. Did this YF-23 project ever pick up any traction? I think that even the twin 80mm or a single 90mm would do great, as long as the wing loading stays low, since the wings are short. The banana hobby model is too small, heavy, very hard to get the CG right, battery bay is too small and it doesn’t work well at all on grass. The freewing team can put together a much better model with very little effort. I think it would sell well.

As you can see, this thread is 5 years old, the last post nearly 2 years ago. In that time, very few post were made on this subject. This means that very little interest got generated for this plane. The only easily purchased YF-23 was from Banana Hobby. I got one. Banana has long since stopped selling it as it was a poor seller. Why? The LX model of this plane was poorly designed, flew badly and required quite a lot of work to make it even close to "decent". Even with a gyro, it was all over the sky. Don't be fooled by the RCInformer YouTube video showing what a great plane it was. RCInformer was, at the time, a reviewer in the Banana Hobby camp. He was an expert flyer and knew how to set up and mod a plane so it would fly well. That was his job - to make even bad a plane look good so the company could sell them. In reality, for the average buyer, the LX YF-23 was a handful. IMO, it was GARBAGE and not worth consideration.
It's too bad Freewing didn't pick this project up as they seem to be able to make any plane a good flying product. Perhaps the reason they didn't pick it up was because they knew it was going to end up CRAP! Who knows, maybe they've been working on one in the past few years and we may see one. I wouldn't hold my breath.
Google "RC YF-23 model airplane" and you'll see a few obscure shops (some on AliExpress) that still sell the LX. If you like taking chances and like throwing your money away, buy one. I think you'll be very sorry, especially since you said, "I'm new to all of this". What is "ALL of this"? Does that mean you are new to flying RC? If so, almost no EDF jet is a good beginner RC airplane.

I mean I am new to R.C. world, including the RC Planes. I'm very fond of the F22 A, F-35C, and the FAXX & NGAD prototypes aesthetically. I just Love the story of the YF-23, for it's performance and I would just like to have one to try and fly. I just don't know where to go to actually get one. It seems like Alibaba is really the only joint selling it at all and even they are out of it. I thought that must've meant that it's THAT popular an RC Plane. I apologize for offending anyone or coming off "a wet behind the ears" rookie

I think it means the complete opposite. The LX model was a very poor model, both in quality and in flying characteristics. I don't think LX even makes them anymore. If you happen to find one, it'll be some left over stock hiding in some warehouse that someone just uncovered.Originally posted by HotRodsANoob View PostI thought that must've meant that it's THAT popular an RC Plane.
Since you say you are new to RC, any EDF jet and especially this particular YF-23 will be a tremendous disappointment and loss of money. Unless you know someone who is a very experienced RC modeler and pilot, who can mod it and set it up to fly, I highly doubt it will last more than about 15 seconds after take-off. I've seen an LX SR-71 last about 5 seconds and the person was not new to RC. It went straight up after leaving the ground, did an upside down U and went straight into the ground. Nothing left.
You might consider starting with a trainer plane for a season or 2 before getting into jets.
