  • Last day for FAA registration

I just completed registration at 2110 this evening, albeit grudgingly. I still firmly believe that what the FAA has done is
completely against the law as dictated by Sec.336 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012.
I wish our community had the political clout and financial resources to totally throw this back in the face of the FAA and
have their "ruling" soundly reversed in a court of law.
Just another example of big government out of control in my honest opinion.

I'm printing my number in a microscopic font and then gluing the printed strips in the planes.

They didn't say it had to be some minimum size... I can easily see it.

I also plan to print out copies of the registration certificate in the smallest font possible and tape it inside each model.
Meeting the letter of the regulation but being as annoying as practical to the regulators.

I'm sure the countryside will be scowered by thousands of FAA UAS police 24-7, searching for those menacing, unregistered "toy" airplanes!!! I made tiny labels also. Doc

Hey guys, did anyone receive a card from the FAA? I registered and got a number but is there something we're supposed to be carrying around to prove that number belongs to us ?

              Gman,
You don't get a card. Your suppose to print a copy of your certificate and have it available when flying.

                Hey GMan!

When I registered on the site there was a page that I could print out with my name, number, registration date, and experation date that you cut out and that is my card.

Printing those up at 50 per standard sheet of paper...

I'll tape one to each battery pack.

Want to see my registration? Here it is.

I laminated mine with packing tape on each side, then trimmed the edges. I have one on my field box, in my battery boxes, my wallet, stuck to my forehead. Doc

I don't know if you are aware or not guys, but the registration number has to be able to be read without taking the model apart. It can go under a hatch as long as the hatch is not screwed down. It has to be on the model to, not on your flight box to stay within the letter of the law. You also have to carry the certificate that you print off at the time of the registration. Yes, I am also aware it is a pain in the neck.

Hi, Martin. I wasn't clear in my above post. I was speaking of my certificate being stuck to my forehead. Doc

You are allowed to take apart the model. You just can't use tools to take apart the model. This address pop off hatches, magnetic or spring loaded canopies. In my case most of my models have plug in wings, that do not use threaded fasteners. As they do not need tools (well other than ones fingers) to disassemble I have my numbers hidden in the wing root. My numbers are on a piece of highly flammable cellophane and are written in water soluble ink. This should make me compliant with the reg's and should I be involved in an "incident" there is little chance that the registration number will survive!

And yes along with the model carrying the registration number you (I) must also have the certificate on you (me) or within reach.

Yeah, your supposed to have your AMA no., your FAA no. your address, phone no., a DNA sample, etc. so that if you have a fly away and your plane goes through someones windshield (or worse) they can hunt you down like a dog. Yes, it is tempting to not leave evidence in your plane. HOWEVER... Doc

Yes, it is true that I'm not able to build a model without it carrying a pound of my flesh and blood, damned #11 Exacto blades:@

                                        Hi guys,
This is my 1st post. I also registered with the FAA. I’m fairly new to RC however about 20 years with control line Jr. High to my mid 20’s. 40 years later and I’m into RC. Now I’m a member of AMA. I really like electrics.
I’m not trying to start a fight or tick anybody off. I hate big government and all their regulations too! Please excuse my ignorance or maybe I’m just naïve, but I don’t understand why everyone is so up in arms about the FAA thing.
I’ve read things about some (hobbyists ????) who have done some really stupid things around airports. I’ve seen “park-flyers” in my area flying low over people who are also trying to enjoy the public park. I’m not saying that all modelers are irresponsible but there are flyers out there that give all of us a bad reputation. I feel like these guys are the reason the FAA has their spotlight on all of us. Safety is the 1st concern of the AMA and should be for flying model clubs; at least it is in my club.
I would like some input to help me understand all the ramifications of this issue.
Always fly in the middle of the air and stay away from the edges. Edges of the air are identified as trees, ground, water, buildings, etc.
