As my son and I venture into building our first airplane together, I have been researching radios and engines, I have found the ones I want... but, it's been so long since I last flew, Mode 2 is the throttle on the right correct?

No, mode 2 is the normal (for North America) layout, throttle on the left, ail/elev on the right: http://www.spektrumrc.com/Articles/A...ArticleID=2105. Good luck on the project, I'm sure the project will be a great experience for both of you to share!Originally posted by MEDIC1972 View PostAs my son and I venture into building our first airplane together, I have been researching radios and engines, I have found the ones I want... but, it's been so long since I last flew, Mode 2 is the throttle on the right correct?

Thank you for the input, I learned on Mode 1 and I remember the reason why (typical general aviation aircraft, Cessna, Piper, etc) the throttle is to the pilot's right. The radio I plan on purchasing is a Futuba (I know that they are reputable, they have around since I started flying back when I was 12... so 32 years) but it comes in Mode 2, can they still be easily converted to Mode 1?

Check out http://www.futabarc.com/faq/ - they answer that question for the 7C, so select your model and see if it is there, too. You may have to modify the sticks, to change the spring-centered RH stick to normal throttle control.

All most all current radio systems can be changed to any of the 4 modes, 1,2,3,and 4. The most populars is mode 1 and 2. All current Futaba and Spektrum systems can be changed quite easily. You do have to move a spring across from one side to the other in a Futaba TX. A Spektrum only requires that you adjust a couple of screws. However you will have to perform a system change in the program, but both are simple to do.
The Detrum radio that Motion RC carries can also be changed from mode 1 to 2 and vise versa, however with this system you have to physically change over the stick assemblies from left to right and again you will have to perform a system change in the program. The stick change sounds more difficult than it actually is . But you will require the special screw driver bit to remove the screws holding the still assembly to the case.
I hope this helps anyone who would like to carry out the change.
Martin.
