  • RE: All us newbie pilots, lets share..

    Hi Skippy Welcome aboard

My advice would be lots of expo. Those 800mm planes can be pretty twitchy. Also you may want to start a thread for this plane. You will get more exposure and a lot more advice

Wow! So many old bombers, such gorgeous nose art! Such a shame to scrap all that history, though I guess in 1947 & 48 when that was shot, it wasn't such a big deal.

First of all, Hi Skippy and welcome to the Forum, we can always use another experienced voice!
The funny thing about my curb experience yesterday was that I eyeballed the tail wheel as she taxiing and as I advanced the throttle the tail wheel turned to the right, I though something was loose, so I pulled the tail feathers off to see. The metal sleeve that tail wheel slides into just seems to sit in a hole in the foam, you'd think it would have had a metal sleeve that it would slide into that was glued to the foam, hmmm.
I took the Waco as well on the second foray, it was getting gusty again so I tried taxiing her, just to see how she traveled in comparison. She's straight as am arrow.  Also, you can go through a set of those funky foam tires that Pandoras come with in one bad flight, so I'm going to do some work on her. She's getting P-1's old wings and going low wing, I seem to have more success with the low wing configuration.  Pandora-1 is getting the new Red, White and Blue wings (See the airbrushing Thread).  I'll be pulling the servos out of P-2's old wings and ordering in two for the flaps on P-1.  The R,W,B paint job is stunning, talk about visual, I'm leaning towards doing the Fuse simiilair to P 51 Miss America livery.  All in all she'll be a knock out!!

Here's the new improved Pandora-1 with her sister Pandora-2 who just got her wings changed for the first time to low wing configuration.  Sort of the before and after pictures!

I think she looks great!! So pleased with the way she turned out.  Just waiting for the flap servos to get here and new wheels for P-2 (Dave Brown 3" treaded, P-1 has 2.75's) as I don't really like the styrofoam tires.

Looks great Gman! Looks like that newly painted Pandora should be in an air show. That video is depressing, I would love to have just the nose of one of those B-17's in my back yard. Never mind that, attach it to the house so you could walk right into it from your hobby cave.  Go out there and sit in the cockpit with a cold, (or hot) drink and contemplate life. Wouldn't the wife love that idea.

Hey Bryan, actually, they peeled off really easily.  I just found a spot where they were heaved up, or worked an edge up with a tooth pick and they came off no problem.  I have a spare set of Pandora decals that I have used some off of , but when I went to look for the windshield decals, they aren't included, so out with the black paint and brushes and I just painted them back in.  The original window decals peel right off if you lay some masking tape over them.  Then, I coated the bare spots over with Minwax.  The wings were new, so no decals on them.  I took some 220 grit sand paper to them and ipa'd the heck out of them, then rubbed in Minwax before I masked them off.  The only problem I found was that I couldn't tape over the painted area, even though I coated the blue with three coats on Minwax and took some of the tackiness off the tape by applying it to my sweatshirt several times, it still lifted the paint, so I cheated with some blue tape, worked great.  When I did the fuse, I just taped off the white.  When I painted the red, I taped wax paper to that tape so I could 'curtain off' the blue area rather than wrapping it up tightly, worked great too!

By the way, did you see what MRC did for Sean (Stoopid Monkey)?  Check out his post about his P51B.  I'm so proud of Motion RC, just thought I'd let you know.

Not to change the subject here but I was just thinking. Maybe I do need help! My collection of NIB (New in box) planes is almost as big as what I've got built! Seems every time I see something that strikes my fancy I HAVE to have it. Unfortunately lack of funds keeps everything in check.....almost.
I'll come down from the workshop/cave with a newly finished one and the wife will say, 'Where and when did you get that one?' She opened a spare closet for some reason the other day...not good because this is where I have my stash of new boxes hidden, and her mouth dropped. I was grilled about that for a while.
Do any of you have multiple builds going on at the same time too? I end up asking myself what do I want to work on today? I honestly think this is instilled in my DNA from building all those models as a kid. To me, building, painting, installing the electronics, and tweeking everything is at least half the fun of this hobby.
Anyway, I ramble here, I know that there are other 'sick' people out there like me.

The other 30 are strategically placed everywhere. I used to be able to work in there. My wife gets the heebeejeebees just at the thought of going in there! When I was 19, I scared of a prospective girlfiend by telling her how much I loved airplanes. But seriously...It's a sorded, twisted sickness! The Doctor

Don't you feel bad at all!!!

                                      There's is a reason you never see a U-Haul behind a hurst!!
Our role as Americans is to accumulate and enjoy the things we like while we're here!!!

In my humble opinion, the only number associated with maximum plane ownership is Infinity!!!

                                      I don't gamble, I don't drink and I don't smoke!!!
                                      I do however, buy airplanes.........often.

It could be worse!! I truly believe that of the alternatives, my wife much prefers this one.
