Greetings Gang,
Does anyone besides me still have to endure the "Put a muffler on it!!", or, "Hey, you forgot your motor!!" comments in reference to your electrics at your flying field from the 'purest' Nitro-Heads?? Or, my favorite... When I'm flying an EDF, making a low pass, go into a beautiful vertical about mid-runway, kill the throttle at the apex to begin a slow dive only to hear one of the Nitro-Heads - during that brief moment of silence - say to his buddy, "Oh, Thank God!!". I mean, when is it going to end!!??
There is even a rumor at our "club" that one member wants to run for club President next year JUST so he can weed out anyone who still flies 72MHz (Nitro) and or Electrics of any kind!!! Really!!???
I mean, I have even purchased and flown a couple of nitro planes with the expressed belief that after flying those they would leave off the comments when I'm flying my electrics....No Way.
Yesterday, there was a guy preparing to fly quite a large Gas/Nitro type plane in the pit area close to mine and I heard him say to his friend that if they angle the plane just so and go full throttle, they might be able to blow my electrics/foamies off the field. Again, Really!!!????
I simply and quietly went to my Jeep, accessed my 1911 (Oklahoma is an open carry state) walked over and proceeded to point it at his big, expensive gas motor and asked him if he still wanted to blow away my planes!!?? Of course "He was just kidding".
Now, in fairness not everyone voices or holds such an opinion. There are a few forward thinkers out there. But, it's really getting old and can take the air out of your balloon at the flying field regardless of how well you think your flying that day or how scale-detailed your plane is or the fact that you've already flown your electrics four times while they're still trying to get their nitro-engine to idle!!!
Please understand, I'm primarilly venting here and as the saying goes, misery loves company. I will continue to pay my dues and fly (as long as I can) at the club field and enjoy the company of some of the more like-minded members. It would however be a lot more fun without the comments.
