Freewing Mirage 2000C V2 “Tiger Meet” 80mm EDF - Official Thread

I hear you. I have both and love both because they really are different experiences. The Mirage is a small 80mm which I like because it really is a speed demon, but also with that fat delta shape, she has awesome slow flight characteristics as well. Then the Hawk is easily FW's fastest 70mm stock but with it's shape and the flaps she can perform like a sports jet, fly slow and has that nice nose light which not only looks cool, but helps with orientation as well.Originally posted by thisguy65 View PostThanks guys! kinda on the fence between this and bae awk
Its a tough choice for sure.

RC Jet dude is right, you don't have to fly the Mirage at full throttle the entire time. Cruise the Mirage at half throttle until you're comfortable with it. One of our videos shows me flying it for several minutes with mixed throttle, some of it gliding and low power cruise. The Mirage's delta configuration lends itself to efficient close in flying.
If you fly the F-16 and F-4 "fine", as you say, then it sounds like you have the fundamental skills and conposure to try the Mirage.

It's fast, it is small and can be hard to see at times but it is a Delta so it can high Alpha great and it is soooo much fun to fly. It glides well and you don't have to fly it wide open all the time. I use Admiral 6S 4000 Pros in mine and they work great! To answer your question, you won't know until you try.

I use the HobbyStar 5200. Same weight and size as the Admiral 4000 pro.

Oh and if there was ever a plane that a gyro could help..... it's the Mirage:Ligthbulb:Originally posted by Reborn8 View PostI was curious if the Mirage takes a long runway to take off. I was also curious if the CG in the manual is correct. I will be using a 6S 5K mah lipo. I see that people using the 4K one line the lipo up with the intake for the most part. Any advice is helpful. Thanks.

The CG in the manual I thought worked well.Originally posted by Reborn8 View PostI was curious if the Mirage takes a long runway to take off. I was also curious if the CG in the manual is correct. The throws in the manual like quickstop suggests were WAY too aggressive for me. If I remember correctly (and it's possible I don't since it's been so long since I've owned the jet, ha-ha), I had around 15mm for Elevator throws and 5mm for Aileron throws, and was what I liked to fly with best.
I used a 4000mah 6S battery as it was easier to fit in the tray, was able to achieve proper CG, and kept the total weight lower. Batteries are different in weight, dimensions, capacity, power output, etc., so make sure you can achieve the proper CG in the manual with the battery you intend to use. This plane appears to have been designed more for the average 4000mah 6S battery, although that's not saying a 5000mah won't necessary fit, but it depends on the weight and dimensions. A good habit to form is not to focus on using a line or marker of where the battery should go, or what others have used. It can be used as a potential starting point, but not confirmation on the CG being correct for your configuration. Someone else's battery, electronics placement, upgraded components, etc., may be placed differently and weigh differently than yours, and that distribution of weight matters. Before flight, be 100% your specific aircraft achieves the proper CG/CG range by testing it yourself. Some balance an RC airplane carefully on their fingertips, and others use a CG machine of sorts. Just make sure it's accurate enough and consistent to ensure safe flights. Even if someone has the same battery that I'm using on the same aircraft, I will still never use their battery position as the marker for where mine should go. That is done on your own plane with testing.

I would say the answers to your question in order are no and yes. Of course pilot technique comes into play here but with all that thrust it doesn't need much of a roll. Cg for me was right on.Originally posted by Reborn8 View PostI was curious if the Mirage takes a long runway to take off. I was also curious if the CG in the manual is correct. The main thing was to tone down the roll rates....a lot.

The 90mm Scale EDF are not that fast. Probably the Mirage 2000 would fit well.Originally posted by flyAA View Post
I’m looking for the fastest PNP out of all the 70/80/90mm freewing EDFs. I hear the 80mm a-10 is pretty fast as well, I’ve got one but haven’t had a chance to maiden it yet.
Here is a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc_Q0NDxGCQ. from the 3DPUP upgrades The STL files I have provided with letters in front of the file name, so there is a connection. The parts are best glued with contact adhesive on the model. In the ventilation details, I have that material completely cut away. This really brings in air. For the LED cover, I took 1mm thick PVC from the hardware store with "C LED glass cover Form.stl" I shaped the cover. Here is a video of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qamvXcPtGsI. The LEDs (3Watt) for the lighting I have with 5mm Alustäben with 20-30mm provided, so you can use stronger lighting modules. Mine is a homemade. In the areas I have used 0.5mm enameled wire so that the parts "wing lighting 2x.stl" could remain small. https://youtu.be/iLcymbEyilU

I can't think the A-10 would make the top 3... Mirage, F-5 and maybe the Avanti??

I have, or have flown, all of the stock F/W EDF's and yes it is maybe the fastest of the bunch but would hardly call it a "speed demon". But you might, that depends on what you expect, either way doubt that you will regret this one and if it won't fit in your trunk, nothing will !.
