The Avanti is a significantly larger sport jet with much lower wing loading. The Avanti Wingspan is 7" larger than the Futura and the Avanti length is 5" longer than the Futrura. The Avanti is on the larger size of the 80mm category while the Futura is very small for an 80. Both are nearly identical in weight.
Yes they are in the same class and the Futura is the exact same kind of plane. A sport jet! They have their pros and cons but to say that the Futura isn't the same class of plane isn't really being honest. The wing loadings may be different but that doesn't change the class. I have flown both planes and the Futura V1 is faster than the Avanti V1 with 12 blade. Quite a bit faster actually! And when set up properly it doesn't behave much differently. Ground handling is actually better on paved surfaces because of the wide stance. Now the V2 Red Avanti with the 9 blade is a different beast speed wise! its quick! But I still think that the Futura is better on the top end. And with the FMS inrunner motor it is actually a superior set up in terms of flight times and cruising ability. the 80mm FMS fan is capable of 9-10 min flight times in the right hands. I have never seen an Avanti get more than about 5 even with mixed flying. Bottom line is that they are both really good choices. It just depends on which way you are leaning. Not about a brand name at all... just the flavor... I dig both!! But the inrunner makes me want the Futura...

If anything, I would be more concerned about changing the ESC as earlier FMS Predator ESC's were NOT made by Hobbywing like they are now. The failure rate was much too high previously. So, if it were me, I'd change the ESC to a 100A Hobbywing before thinking about the motor/fan, and then I'd check to see how balanced the Fan unit is from the factory. After that, I'd inspect the rest before the maiden flight to ensure all components are working as expected.

Yeah, thankfully. LOL. Their V1 in my opinion could have been better, but their V2 definitely upped their game.

I traded a club member for his Future but it was rough cosmetically so I decided to do a re-paint. Something distinctive. Plane flies like a rocket!

I like the "TOMAHAWK" graphic down the ventral spine! I have a thing for yellow and black.

I have the Futura V1. I like it but I want a faster one.
What do you recommend? The Futura V2 or the Avanti 80mm 9 blades?
Any other EDF unit (80mm) you recommend for top speed?

I'd go avanti hp. They are both faster than the V1, but I like that the nose on the avanti is replaceable as well as the lighting is a nice extra touch.

As for my V1, I'm just going to update the power system in mine.

I really think the futura is underrated compared to competitors. It's a great flying plane, I still have my v1. It's faster than the avanti. Cheaper too.
