We're strictly dirt for our runway, so no nice grass blades to help cushion the touchdown or minimize the abrasion. Here in Baja Arizona, grass tends to be a luxury item for country clubs and golf courses, as it just costs too much to keep a lawn watered.

I guess we are lucky, its farmland, this year is soy around the field, much better than corn stacks when having dead sticks.
The only bad I would say is gophers making tunnels across feom side to side. We put traps and works sonetimes. We bring a air rifle .22 and helps to clean it up a bit, of course field is closed.
But yeah, Stinger is a nice flyer, of all the 64mm, its one of the easiest, after the Eflite F15 which is almost a edf trainer.Comment

We have the round-tailed squirrels here in the desert (look like miniature prairie dogs), and we've had issues with them burrowing in the runway. Additionally, just about everything in the Sonoran Desert has thorns, so hitting a tree or weed can often produce punctures in the foam.
I am happy we don't have a bunch of cholla close to the field. Cholla is one reason I don't go anywhere in this desert without my Leatherman. This photo is one of our local hiking trails, threading through a thick area of cholla. The thorns have a tiny hook at the end, and just brushing against it will snag a "cholla berry," causing it to break off and flip into you, hence it's nickname, "jumping cactus."

Actual proof that I've flown the Stinger, and that I'm taking off from the ground on the landing gear. I've haven't ordered a second battery yet, so it's still the Admiral 3S 1600 mAh battery. Pretty bouncy landing, but since I'm still learning my way around this plane, I'll take an ugly landing over a crash any day.
I think I'm going to reduce my timer on the Tx to 2:30, to allow myself a bit more time to line up for landing, without potentially over-drawing the battery. When I put the battery on the charger after getting home, to set it to the store level, it was reading about 11.3 volts.

Thats about right, if each cell reads 3.70 (basically storage discharge reading).
That plane shines on 4S on a 2200mah, 3:30 of spirited driving.Comment

I think the 4S version has upgraded ESC and motor, for the same size plane. I don't know if they open up a bit more area under the canopy for the battery, though. That 3S 1600 is a snug fit. Right now, I'm pretty happy with the performance on the 3S, though once I'm a lot more comfortable with the plane, I might decide to get more aggressive with it. While learning EDF flying, though, real fast isn't always the best option. I logged my 5th flight with it last Saturday.
The blue trim on the underside wingtips was starting to peel, so I decided to go ahead and remove it completely, and repaint the wingtips. I went with a metallic red for better in-flight contrast. I love the blue color, but it doesn't always show up the best against the sky.

I reduced the timer to 2:40. When it went off, I came in a bit too high and went around for another pass. Dropped down, and came as close to greasing the landing as I've ever done on any plane (nice easy touch-down and roll-out with no bounce). Taxied in, and checked the battery when I pulled it from the plane. All three cells were reading right about 3.7 VDC. If the wind hadn't started kicking up, I would have flown it a second time this morning after the ESC had cooled off. I'm really enjoying this plane.Comment

Mine is a belly lander, its a grass field. I ended chopping off the nose completely and working it on a stubby nose look. Its design has the nose pointing down and sometimes it will catch a high grass spot and clip/stop badly even when greasing it on a smooth tail belly land.
Setting the CG is very forgiving, I removed some of the nose foam to have more battery space, and if the battery is too small I wrap them w #64 rubber bands.Comment

It has a good envelope, although sometimes its temperamental on the flare. Overall its one cool fast edf jet. Keep a lookout on the wing bolts, they tend to loosen up after a while.
Good job wthe key chain clip! I got one, but the battery went bad, a one dollar fix or just buy another one.Comment

I've been pretty surprised by the keychain cameras. For under $30, they work well, and they've held up remarkably well. I've had the first one for well over a year, and the second one for probably close to a year.
My coworker bought a Runcam 2, and wants me to get it set up (he doesn't have either an Android or IOS device - real basic cell phone). I'm going to connect it to my old Droid Turbo, and if that works okay, just give him the old phone. He won't need to have cellular service to interface with the camera. I did notice the Runcam is around 3 to 4 times the weight of the Matecam, though the Runcam does look like it has a nicer lens, and is WiFi capable.Comment

Perhaps where you are but for us in Canada, RC Castle shipping is the only way to go. Most stuff comes by mail and when it gets here, little to no brokerage. Even large planes can be shipped by mail, which is by far, the cheaper way to go, considering that big boxes must be sent via FedEx from Motion, where brokerage is involved and when added to the total cost, exceeds what you call "outrageous". I've been buying all kinds of stuff from both Motion (before tariffs) since they began and from RCC for almost a decade. I know the difference. I buy from Motion when I want a new product immediately and out of loyalty. I buy from RCC to save a few bucks.
If you are in the Con USA, you think it's outrageous because you get most of your stuff (over a certain value) with free shipping from Motion. The rest of the world, not a chance. We pay international shipping from Motion, which is quite elevated. So, yes, for Hoomi, who is in the USA, free shipping is better than anything RCC would charge.
Oh, and sometimes, when you need something really badly and Motion is out of stock, RCC usually has stock.Comment

the music makes me want to listen to Jethro Tull, je je.
The Stinger is my favorite jet, can do so many things, tracks so well, super stable at slow speeds. It can be flown from a 1800 to a 2700, easy to balance, mine is a belly lander.Comment
