  • Freewing T33 Issue

I have the Freewing T33. The left main failed to extend, the aircraft skidded, came to a stop with minimal scrapes. Otherwise, there was no damage. Now the motor works, but none of the flight controls. I disconnected the retracts from the receiver thinking that if they were jammed, that might be the problem. Still nothing. Any ideas from the group? Thanks!

    Hi

Yous still use the Blue Box?
I removed the Blue Box, so I hope you will find the problem?!

Thanks for your suggestion, Mr. Hans. Yes, I use the blue box. I will bypass it and see what happens. AL Slachter

The servos do not operate bypassing the blue box. I used a servo tester to confirm. A known good servo operates perfectly. For the whole situation, here goes.... The runway was very wet, the left main did not extend on landing. The t33 swerved into wet grass. The belly was wet but not excessively. I disconnected the 5000mah lipo, took the aircraft home. Dried everything off, plugged in the battery...nothing. The receiver would not bind. Installed a new receiver, bound it. The motor came up normally, but no flight controls or retracts. I assume all the servos and retracts are shorted out. Could this happen? Always do a gear check before landing, I didn't. Thank you again Mr. Hans.

          Hello

          This sound not good.
You checked every servo and retract apart with servo tester!
If they don't work than they shorted out as you suggested sadly.
Also you're receiver is dead too???
Never seen this but as you maybe have proven, it can happen sadly in you're case.

          Regards Hans

            Hello Hans,

You are right, not good. The receiver is completely dead. No bind light, nothing. I installed a new receiver, it bound immediately. The motor spools up normally, but no flight controls, or gear. I removed the connectors from both the rudder and elevator from the new receiver. Tested with a known good servo, the servo operated perfectly. I will remove the wing from the fuselage, and check servos and main gear.

My suspicion is that the speed control became wet from sliding on wet grass and runway. (we had previous rain) Just enough moisture to cause and electric short to the receiver. At this point, all seems to be lost.
Receiver, servos, gear. However, the speed control is now functioning normally. Thank you for your comments and suggestions. The T33 is such a great aircraft, I have enjoyed flying it for several years. I am sure you enjoy your T33 also.

            Regards,
            AL

              Hi

I crashed mine a few weeks ago in heavy wind conditions, in a turn a wind gust hit the plane no lift and was able to recover only some trees where in his pad, complete loss.
I bought me a second one long ago as spare so Yesterday I was able to fly my beloved T33 again.

Sorry for your loss. If you lived closer, I would be interested in all of the servos and retracts! My only incident besides the current one was a bad landing. I tore out the mains from the wing when I was learning this T33. Bad landing, too slow and she dropped on the runway. The T33 is my favorite 80MM jet. I should have purchased a back-up T33 myself, looking to purchase one now. At least I will have a good parts plane!

AL Slachter Good to hear you are flying your beloved T33 again.

I have removed the wing to test the servos and main gear. Hooked directly to a servo tester each servo. Everything dead. Moral of the story, do not let the speed control get wet. It will ruin your day. Even the receiver was destroyed. Anyone have this happen?

                    Grtz Hans and other members,

I changed all the electronics. Flew my T33 today! Handled perfectly just like new. I wouldn't have put so much effort into this jet, but I really like the way it flies. And she looks so good taxiing and flying. Thanks to Motion RC for stocking all the electronics I needed. Amazing what just a little moisture caused, but it did!
