Freewing 80mm A6

Getting ready to maiden the A6. I am using the Admiral 4000 60C battery.

According to the manual the CG should be at 265-280mm back from leading edge of intake lip. With gear up or down, my CG falls at the back of the range (about 275 or so) with current battery placement.
Should my elevators be level with that panel line, or showing a little up (leading edge down) about 1/8"?

Any help or advice from you A-6 drivers would be appreciated. Normally I do not have any trouble with trim as I set the bird up according to the manual.
But lately there have been some models (FMS P-40 to name one) that had bad info in the manual. So, I am a little cautious of just blindly trusting the manuals now.

Anyway, if you guys can let me know the correct battery placement and stab position I would appreciate it.

My admiral 4000 60C ends up being right at equal to the intake lips. Maybe 1/16 in front of them. That puts my Cg at about 275-280 with wheels down and 270-275 with wheels up.
If I put the admiral full aft, my Cg is way too far aft. I must add that I am running my RX back near the aft side of the battery. That could explain the difference.

I'm running my Rx aft also but am also only using the 40C 4000 Admiral which weighs 12g less than your 60C

I have always wanted this bird but have read some less than savory flight characteristics with this model. I dont remember what they are but its always kept me from getting one. Look forward to more thoughts on how it flies

About the only thing you can call "unsavory" is the speed. With the way the bifurcated ducts are set up, you lose some of the efflux velocity as compared to the other 80mm jets. But, that's the way an A-6 should fly, slow and lumbering. Don't get me wrong, it's no slouch, but nothing near as fast as the F-5, F-86 or Mirage. Plus, it's a draggy airframe to begin with, so that doesn't help.

But she is so majestic in the air, especially with a bomb loadout! I've been flying mine for more than 2 years now, and it always gets compliments at the field.

For the record, I fly mine with the lipo as far back as it will go with no ill effects whatsoever. Slow passes with full flaps are awesome!

I have both the Freewing A-6E and the 1700 mm FMS Corsair for a few years now. I love flying both of them. I put my Admiral 4000 Pro 60C all the way back as far as I can, flies great. The Corsair, I use an Admiral 5000 50C all the way forward as far as it can go. It is a great airplane, my only complaint is the landing gear is a bit weak for the weight of the airplane. I have replaced the gear and/or retracts several times, but it is worth it. Have fun!!

If it's a recent release it's a good plane with the V2 motor mount and better retracts, I have one and other than being under "scale" powered it has preformed flawlessly.

And if it can't fit that battery, is that the older, wider version or has anyone tried the new version that is only slightly larger, yet longer and a bit heavier than the Admiral Pro 6S/4000/60C?

I'm definitely considering adding this plane to my fleet, but it needs to be able to take my current compliment of 6S 5000s.

Confirming.....the A-6 will only accept the old case size 6S/4000/40C with 12ga power leads

The 5000 is just too beefy, same length as the 4500 but too thick so the hatch won't close.
Not enough thickness in the battery floor or the hatch to cut away and still keep structural integrity.

I guess I'll have to keep admiring this one from afar. I'm just not ready to invest in any 6S 4000s since I just increased my stock of 5000s anticipating the arrival of the A-10.

It rocks on the FW 1820kv inrunner on 5000.

The gear isn't the strongest, but buying a few spares here and there wasn't too bad.

I don't mind carving out some foam or moving around components in and around the battery bay to get the CG correct for a 5000. However, replacing the EDF is a bit more than I'd like to do in both cost and effort.

So for my purposes, is it possible to carve out some foam or move components around to get the new Admiral 5000 to fit?

You won't be able to move the 5000 pack back far enough to make the proper CG and it will fly very nose heavy. There is a ply bulkhead at the back of the battery bay.

Honestly, if it's a plane you plan on keeping I'd strongly suggest upgrading to the 1820 inrunner... It's a night and day difference in power and sound compared to the lackluster outrunner IME.

I flew it once on the outrunner and upgraded the next day. best $100 you'll spend.

As the others have strongly noted, you can't run 5000 mAh on the stock fan... But I wouldn't recommend stock for anyone anyway so lol
