After reading the comments in this forum, regarding Freewing F4 Phantom I decided to look for ways to make a non existent Freewing 90mm EDF F4 Phantom a reality (at least in Part). The only other 90mm EDF F4 Phantom available now is from Fly Fly and it is made of EPS foam and has fixed landing gears. I had an LX F4 Phantom last year and it was truly a maintenance nightmare. The plane was under powered and a bit tail heavy. The leading edge flaps (slats) were always coming loose etc. Since the prospect of seeing a Freewing F4 Phantom is just a dream at this point, I decided to turn an LX F4 Phantom to a Freewing Quality 90mm EDF Jet. The latest LX model has improved Slats, so hopefully it will function as intended. Banana Hobby sells the KIT version for around $150. I bought the Kit and carved out the inside part of the whole plane and fitted a Freewing 90mm inrunner. My goal is to use 130A Freewing ESC and all Freewing servos. I will use the stock retractable landing gears. I am going to use a single servo for the ailerons and connect the twin elevator push rods together. This will ensure that elevators will move in unison. I have started this project and am ready to run my electronics. I will post a YouTube video once the plane takes flight with a 6s 5000mah battery. Here are some of the photos in progress. All comments and suggestions are welcome since its my first attempt at something like this.
