Phoenix 60cc 94.4" JU-87 Stuka

I have a big Ziroli JU-87B R2 Stuka. It was way over-built and about 10 lbs heavier than the plans called for (28-32lbs)… Anyway, it still flew great once your 500 feet of take off run (with 10 degrees of flap) was successful.... That is not an exaggeration. The paved runway is 600 feet and it used almost all of it. Every time!!! LOL Point is, they do fly great and look awesome in the air. I have the FMS 1400 and it is really nice too!

I forgot!!! I have the Phoenix 1.20 JU-87 in the box!!! Wow!! How cool is that?? My neighbor sold it to me and I just tucked it away and forgot about it....:Silly:

The maiden flight was a test for the owner and builder. I didn't know how much it weighed, and he stated that it had a 4.2 CID engine. After trying half the runway and the tail was just starting to fly, I aborted and came back to the very south end of the runway. Set flaps at 10 degrees, and had my partner hold the plane. Then I ran it up to full throttle and he let her go...
Again at about 200-250 ft the tail came up and then I waited... :Sweating::Scared::Thinking:…. I was just about to abort again and the wheels lifted at about 500 ft. Then ever so gently I did the climb out to the east and got into the pattern. After she got on the step (and a lot of aileron trim), she flew great!!! Scary stuff though... Come to find out, she weighed almost 40 lbs instead of the rated 28-32lb. And she had a 3.6 CID engine, not a 4.2 CID!!! If I had know that to start with, it would have never even made the first take off attempt!! At least not with me at the sticks!!! :Whew: Anyway, since the builder couldn't fly, I have been the only one to pilot it. After our second airshow, he sold it to me for 300.00, complete!!! :Silly::Cool:

I was a steal... He just didn't want it any longer. It was his first plane. Built it from scratch off the Ziroli plans... That was 1989, and I still have the plane!!! :Cool: He did an excellent job, it was just heavy...

And, the radio was a Futaba Conquest 4 channel AM with a 3 channel module added for the bomb drops.... AM @ 72 mhz. Woo Hoo...… No expo, no dual rates, and not very happy with an electronic spark ignition in the nose.... By the Grace of God We go!!! Wow....

That one was channel 38!!! Lucky 38!!! We never got hit on that channel... 52, 29, all went down. Not 38!!! LOL
