    RE: Impulse buy....Flyzone DHC-2

Well I flew the Beaver today. I must say it has much more power than the Sport Cub. I see why this plane has flaps. Even though I had flaps setup I did not use them as I have never used flaps. I did have a rough landing and dislodged the wing somewhat. It will take some time to get used to this plane.

Even though I did not have as much success with the Beaver I did fly the Sport Cub very well.

      Hi Lauren

I had the same thing with mine. Twisted a screw off with not enough sticking out to get a pliers on it.
I figured I had the wrong screws sent with my plane, but it appears everyone has this problem. I agree with SOB, use different screws. I didn't have any so I ended up drilling the pilot holes a little bigger so I could use the screws sent with the plane. Then using the same bit, I drilled a new hole just below the one that twisted off and luckily found a screw that would work. Now all is good.
Just make sure you have the gear mounted with the other screws before you drill the new hole so they line up. Hope this helps with your fix

Thanks Capt! That's a good idea to drill a new hole with the other two screws in. I did use the screws sent with the plane but what I did was to coat the threads with petroleum jelly which seemed to help. That one side is kind of screwed up looking now so once I get the gear situated I'll probably get another set  so it looks good. Right now I have a piece of silver gray tape over the bottom hole which ended up getting gouged out trying to get the screw in. It always seems that the first pieces get mangled putting these things together. LOL! Here's the mangled mess...

I wouldn't feel bad about that "mangled mess", my gear looks a lot worse!! Lol
I've got the floats on mine and now that I've experienced the absolute joy of flying off water, I seriously doubt the wheels will ever go back on!!

You're lucky Capt! Although I live near the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland is the only state in the union that has NO natural lakes. Hard to believe huh? So I will save the floats until I go on vacation in July. :)

Another video, new place to fly since the old field got ploughed up on us. Not a whole lot of room to land and take off, but was certainly fun lining up approaches and the landings, got some good practice in with the rudder for that. We've cleaned up the grass in the middle and sides to widen it up a bit, but another fun day with the faithful beaver.

LOL! Yeah, lots of creeks, rivers and streams, some dammed up to create a man made pond for a park or a resevoir but nothing created by Mother Nature. Plus the county I live in has an ordinance that prohibits "model airplanes" in parks so if you are not at an AMA field you are relegated to school yards or athletic fields which typically have no water. :)

Cool vid SOB! funny how that right wheel keeps spinning in the air huh?

You can hear them in the air vibrating a bit when you fly by close. Took me a few passes/landings and checks of the motor/motor mount to figure out it was the wheel making the noise!

Couldn't help myself! Repainted! Got some inspiration from searching through airliners.net photos, still need to decide what I wan't for graphics (Reg #, etc) and get that ordered up from Callie. Very happy with how it looks, should really stand out in the sky now!

Put a few more and my process over in the airbrushing thread.

Well I finally crashed the beaver. I just never really got the hang of it. I managed to glue back together and straighten out what was bent. I am going to see if it will fly this morning. I let everyone know.

Also a club member is selling a Dynam Beaver for $120. Seems like a good deal. What do you guys think?

looks like I'm a little late to the party on this topic :P

but like you've all said, the beaver is awesome!! between my dad and I we've got 5 of these things.... they make great camera platforms, their glide slope is amazing, you can slow them down to a near crawl (I've been able to fly backwards in a breeze), great tow plane for gliders, and they come ready for water.

For you folks wanting to get in on water flights, but afraid of water & electricity, please note that you can waterproof your electronics!

all in all, the beaver is just plain awesome.. nuff said :P

Just curious as to what breaks on this plane so, what broke in the crash? If you don't mind?

Well the cowl broke. I bent the prop shaft pretty good and one wing broke off.

Here is the video of the flight after I put it back together. I transport the plane to the field as one piece.

Great plane!  Maiden flight of my Island Wings on tundra tires required a bit more trim than I expected.  Seems I may have a very slightly warped aileron.  No worries...she trimmed out nicely. Completed the flap servo arm mod and set two positions on my Dx7s. Slows down beautifully.

Installed the floats and tested the water handling in my pool....didn't like it so I installed a servo in the float after opening the case and soaking it with Corrision X. Much better...in fact the single, direct link rudder allowed figure 8s with ease in a 20x40 pool. Open water maiden this week I hope.
