  • New E-Flite P-47D Has Arrived!! PIX Added!

    Greetings Gang,

Just an FYI, today I received my New E-Flite P-47D!!!

I have to say I haven't been this excited opening a new plane box in quite some time!!
Oh Man!! It was well deserved excitement!!!

At first Glance this plane is beautiful!!! That checkered cowl produces instant goosebumps!!
Smartly the main wing is packaged underside up giving you instant visual access to the freshly installed retracts and flaps!!!

I can't wait to begin the short but tantalizing build and if the wind, rain and tornados ever cease and desist here in Oklahoma.
Me and this bad boy (or perhaps it's, this bad boy and I) are headed to the flying field!!!

RE: New E-Flite P-47D Has Arrived!!

      Greetings Ryan,

I will be anxious to compare the E-flite P-47 with my original PZ version as well.

One thing I immediately noticed (and I'd appreciate it if when you build/fly MRC's you'd investigate this) is that instead of 'shimming' the retracts to provide a bit more forward rake (preventing its characteristic nose-over) like on the original, this version seems to have a kind of angular/counter-sunk arrangement on how the retract housings are installed. For the same reason I suppose. Anyway, I'll be curious to hear your opinion on this if you wouldn't mind.

As always, I'll also be looking forward to your review and flight video!!!

I really believe this bird is going to be a blast!!! I'm hoping I can find roam for a sound card!!!

      Clear Skies, buddy

For the most part I think they'll be nearly identical with the main differences being that the old options now come as standard. Also the retracts are 85 degree rather than 90, and of course AS3X with a 4 blade prop. Another thing is the struts are dressed better. On the forward rake I'll let you know. I still have parts from an old wing where I had salvaged the hardpoints and retract pockets for a rainy day, I'll compare them. It does appear to have an adequate amount of forward rake in the stock photos. I'm stoked about this one. Now it makes sense why Snortin' Bull was nixed, there was a new one waiting in the wings. Get it? See what I did there? "in the wings" lol

          Regards,
          Ryan

AMA Regs state that full throttle dive in the house should be avoided. Craft can reach compressibility and control surfaces will be rendered useless. Sometimes if your lucky you may be able to pull out last minute, just inches from the carpet where the air density changes.

            Greetings Andouille,

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!!!

I'm looking forward to hearing about your maiden experience!!

            Greetings Ryan,

Thanks for looking into the rake and for the giggle!

I was also suprised to see that along with the 4 blade prop, the plane sits in the box with a two blade prop installed (which is wierd that it was attached).
I hope you might have a chance to fly it both ways and give your thoughts on the two.

Yep, the dense air just above the carpet allows for last second recoveries, sadly Squishy tends to black out in such maneuvers.

I can pretty much count on a non productive day as my face will be pressed against the window watching for the big brown truck  :D

It's not Squishy it's the original pilot. Same one from old spitfire too but different paint.

                      Greetings Gang,

Here's a couple of quick shots I took with my phone. She's a Beaut!!!

These are a quick-fit (funny though, the only difference between a quick-fit and the finished stage is 4 Pcs of tape and 3 screws).
Just used my servo tester to get the gear down.

                      Ryan,

You were right Pal, the only real difference between this P-47 and the Original P-47 is color and what were once options are now standard.
                      Well, the 4-Blade prop too.

                      Hope to maiden soon!

I just couldn't help myself on this one!!!

One thing I really like about this one that the cowl pattern is actually painted on!
It's not a sticker or decal. A nice touch I thought.

                            Pilots!
Flew the shakedown tonite with our 2600 and then another on our 2200. Both all the way forward. I set it up exactly as prescribed by the manual. Ironically my old one was set up the same with the exception of the new one with as3x calls out no expo just high rates at 100% and low at 70%. I stayed on low the whole time. Flaps also set up exactly to manual callouts. I mixed in elevator with flaps just as called out and noticed a slight climb with flaps deployed at speed. Very slight though I likely will not change it. I like to fly the plane as prescribed for the vid so everyone gets an accurate picture of what to expect. Blast from the past! It felt just like flying the old one but better.
I am very happy with it and can't wait to capture footage of this bird.
You guys will love it! The four blade prop looks fantastic. Be ready on the rudder and stay on it during climb out and you'll be rewarded with a beautifully scale take off. The plane climbs out fine without it but you will see a bit of a crab angle going on. No big deal for sure just super cool. The as3x makes it feel locked in and much bigger.

Alright I'm signing off for real now lol

                            Great model

I was going to buy this one but changed my mind after the P51 quality was not up to expectations. I like the look but not willing to do lots of cosmetic work like required on the P51. Perhaps I will change my mind after you post the video.

I would like to here a good side by side comparison between the new and old version. Speed and power etc. I'm sure those differences are going to be the prop still gonna get the new version just curious.

I don't know about the old version, but I finally got to maiden this new one. Set it up as per the manual and immediately fell in love with it. Flew for 6 minutes then brought it in. I then put the 2 blade prop on and went back up. This thing will boogie right along with the 2 blade! It even has a cool little whistle on a high speed fly by!

Hey Ryan...Are they going to offer 2 blade props for it in the spare parts section? I'm thinkin I'm going to need a couple more of those!

                                    Greetings Famflyer,

As you can see from the couple of quick shots I posted earlier, barring the paint scheme, the two are identical.

The original only came with a two-blade prop (pretty sure), no retracts and no flaps.
You know of course that the new version is a four blade w/retracts and flaps standard (for the same old price!)

I fly them both on a 2600 3-cell and I just adore them both. But I only have the 4-blade on the newer one.
If I had to give a nod to one I have to go with the new version, probably because for right now, it new!

The originals are extremely difficult to find I believe. If your on the fence about them the choice has been made easy, just get the one that's available.

I suppose I should mention that mine is the PNP version, no flight assistance gizmos.

I totally understand. To be honest, I don't think I'll hardly - if ever - fly the original PZ version again simply for the sake of preservation.

Any unexpected mis-haps flying the new version, I know I can get another one.
