I have been landing with the OEM springs and they are fine for me - but I am landing on grass. I am using a Frsky receiver so I have the ability to turn the gyro off if desired, but once you get the CG right, the plane performs great with or without gyro. The gyro just helps smooth things out a bit, especially in windy conditions.
