  • Dynam F4F Hellcat

Hey guys. Just got my brand new Hellcat from Motion RC today and was like a kid with a new toy. I just wanted to come on and get any comments and concerns from anyone that may have this model before I put her together. There's always a mod or something that should be addressed when assembling and I value this groups insight to what I could do a little better. The Dynam Hellcat arrived in perfect condition and is just dying for a receiver and a3l gyro she's going to get. So please chime in and give me your wisdom. Thank you. Dewey Lee (old man 59)

See my thread and picture on my modifications on this one. I think it says Hell Cat ready to go.

The Dynam Hellcat is a fun plane to fly, it reminds me of the old Parkzone Wildcat. Classic looks, easy handling, fairly nimble, but not surprising or especially difficult. Be sure to check the screws holding the motor to its mount, and as always it helps to balance your props. A final tip would be to inspect your ESC's connector from time to time, and use a pencil eraser to rub off any dark carbon scoring which may build up from connecting the battery.

Great plane, I like 3000 4s Admiral the best for batteries.

I was wondering if the hellcat still has the issue with the magnets on the cowling still not holding allowing it to vibrate up into the prop. I haven't got one yet but will be getting it soon.

We never had trouble with ours. Pretty tight fit. Never a bad idea to use a dab of foam tac or something to help make sure it stays put.

Thanks Ryan I figured you would have said if you had a problem. I use FoamTac on a lot of things it's a really nice product and would make the cowling secure and easy to remove if necessary.

It has happened to us, just on other planes. Nothing worse than the unwanted white cowl ring mod. YUCK!

Foam tac or E-6000 is great stuff. It holds things in place, yet is fairly easy to remove, if needed. Doc

                      Hi all,
I am in the process of finally putting mine together too. I am converting it or shall we say painting it to the-5 model it actually is suppose to be. It is painted stock as a -3 model, but the cowl and canopy don't match a -3. I will dump the stock ESC. I have had problems in the past with Dynam ESCs so I will put a ZTW 65 instead. The stock motor is bum out of the box so I have to decide to wait for Motion to get more in stock or put in a 530kv G32 motor. I would probably need to make a motor mount to fit it. I filled in all the panel lines with light weight spackle and intend to do the lines using chart tape. Looks more realistic. I fired the pilot that came with it and will install an Aces of Iron 1/8 scale. He isn't Navy looking being an Army Air pilot, but we can train him in Navy ways. :P I intend to go with a scratch built cockpit and have already made the canopy so it slides open. From what other people told me the rudder can come loose so I will cut and hinge it. I have flown this model before, when someone handed me the controls and it suffers from tail flutter. I pulled all the stock pushrod tubes and will use carbon tube sleeves. Mine will also have working bomb drop hard points for Adam Bombs. If the retracts fail me as some complain about I may upgrade those, but for the near future I'll fly stock. Oh, stock Dynam nav lights are horrible so I am upgrading those too.

It sounds like you have a great plan of action, quitcherbitchen. I'm eager to see your bird when it's all finished! What width of chart tape are you using?

I think 1/16th. I am redoing my shop and the tape is buried in a box until the electrician finishes.

Thanks everyone one for the tips and information. I haven't had time to start putting my plane together yet and it's killing me. But in construction you have to work when it's there or the weather permits. Sounds like quityourbitchen has a plan. Really looking forward to photo's and maybe even a vedio of the maiden
A quick question for everyone. Is there a more substantial landing gear upgrade out there. I to have to fly from a grass field.
Hope to hear more comments and ideas from anyone with this plane. Thanks again gang.

This plane definitely shows that the magnets are having no effect on holding the cowl in place. Just getting hold of it and pulling shows that the smallest of vibration will cause it to move. Adhesive placement, on the magnets to avoid foam pull or a dab on the foam in few places to keep it steady??? On my old used Dynam Pitts Extreme,it's tape. Don't want to do that to the hellcat. Always do my best to balance props as neutral as possible. How do know about the hub being out though. Is there a way of ckecking. I use a Dubrovnik balancer.

This spell check screws up everything I put in. Dubro.

Hey farmflyer not yet. Work combined with weather has prevented it. Last weekend would have been perfect but a tree decided to shed a limb through a roof and ceiling of a client's house. Guess it didn't help that it was covered in ice. One weekend its been cold and icy and the next 60-70 and nice. Typical Fayetteville NC weather. Really itching to get it in the air though.

Hey farmflyer I don't think you will be disappointed. I really like just looking at it static. I'm a real warbird freak and to me it looks impressive. It goes really well with my corsairs. Soon as I get the hellcat maiden out of the way I'm going to put together the FMS P40 I got from Motion a couple of weeks ago. Saving now for the p 51b and the p 38 now. Waiting to see how everyone does with the p 38 before I get one. Hey jump on the hellcat. She's an awesome bird for the money. Let me know of your progress and build.
