  • 800mm Warbird power modifications

Hey guys, I wanted to share a modification I did for my 800mm Corsair this weekend. I took the power system from my Eflite P-47, the 15 size motor and 30 amp ESC and fit it into my Corsair and the plane went from a 30 mph flier to a 60 mph plane. I know some people might wonder why I put such a large motor on it instead of a higher kv smaller can motor but two things, it was free and the extra weight of the motor and the 28g of weight I added under the tail makes this plane handle the wind better and it flies with a lot more authority. I'm using a 3s 1300mah 30C battery with a 9 x 6 2 blade prop, it's hitting 20-22 amps at full power at 230-255 watts. My flight time is 4-5 minutes with mixed flying and everything comes down cool to the touch. I still need to make it look pretty again but the pictures will show you what the motor and mount look like.

Make sure you have a decent prop angle to the right or it will flip over to the left as soon as you power up!!!! All I can say is this plane is a blast to fly now ....

Just an update, I put on an APC 8 x 8 propeller , it dropped the amp pull down to 15, and now it clocked 72 mph, ran off of that 3s 1300 for five minutes, came down with the motor and ESC not even warm. It was a pretty windy day last weekend out here but that extra weight just made it fly steady as ever . And it smoked an Eflite Fury .

I finally have a color scheme that's almost finished.

You'll have no problem with visibility chasing that thing around at 70+ mph!

Well it's finished and I found out using a smaller prop 7x7 makes it fly a lot better without any torque roll especially at take off. This was fun for me because something I thought out actually worked especially when everyone else said it would never fly.

Great, happy that it worked out. How was the plane before the modifications? Maybe you should try a 1600 3S, or will it not fit? Love the paint job, by the way. What'd you use to pain it?
You might be able to fly it, but can you land it?

Thanks , I used colored tape and White House paint. The 1600 is too big and I get 4-5 minutes on the 1300. This little plane kicks now..

The stock setup on these 800mm planes run out around 30 mph, my new setup is hitting 50+ but the extra weight makes it track way better especially in some wind.

I put in 10 flights today, after changing my throw rates to 50% ailerons- 70% elevator with 40% expo on both and it flew perfectly. This little plane has serious vertical, does every acrobatic maneuver, and can scream while handling some windy conditions. I have much larger planes and this Corsair has become my new favorite.
