  • FMS 1400mm T-28 V4 has arrived at Motion RC

The FMS 1400mm T-28 V4 is now in stock. The plane now has new features Motion RC and all of our customers have been asking for!
Changes from V3 to V4 include:
    • Shock absorbing metal oleo struts covered with scale plastic parts for looks
    • Glueless wing "Servo Pockets" (servos in the wing are screwed in as opposed to glued for easier replacement)
    • Upgraded (larger) motor with Japanese ball bearings and magnets
    • Pre-installed ball links on push rods as opposed to the old clevis-control horn setup
    • New FMS multi-connector system for cleaner wiring and easy wing removal
    • FMS removed the functional cowl flaps. While technically a downgrade, there are two less servos to worry about
    • New Motor shaft
    • New detailed cockpit with pilot figure
The only reservations we have is the paint. FMS has tried out a new water based paint on this plane. We have yet to see any vendor make a durable water based paint. All the paints on foam planes are normally oil based. Art-Tech has always used a water based paint and their paints have always flaked off in your hands when you touch the plane. FMS tried a water based paint 3 years ago on the original RocHobby Critical Mass and many of our customers has problems with paint flaking off. We recommend using Beacon Hobby Coat to protect the paint and keep it from flaking. It is entirely possible FMS has perfected the water based paint but we don't have enough experience with this plane yet to know for sure hence our recommendation to use hobby coat to protect the paint.

The upgrades we are most excited about are the motor and shock absorbing landing gear. I know many of you have been asking for these upgrades for a long time.

      Hello Tom,
DANG STRAIGHT we've been waiting for those strut upgrades. Did you get struts with the usual parts replacement supply that accompanies the plane delivery??
Went to the V4 page and I'm guessing that the web page needs to be updated to add these parts cause it shows no mains and the V3 nose gear. A little insight as to how soon I can get an upgrade parts order in please.
      Best regards,

Been waiting for this one but a bit of a steep price increase. Not saying it isn't worth it, I can see the justification, but at that price level it's very close to the new P-40 or the even newer P-38. DAMN YOU MRC!!!!!! ;)

            Best regards,
The spare parts we have listed on the V4 are not entirely correct at the moment. The V3 and V4 have 18 spare parts in common. The V4 has 10 new spare parts which are specific to the V4. Yes, we have the parts in stock. We will unpack them by about mid week and get them on our site. The shock absorbing main landing gear and V4 nose gear are part of those new spare parts which are in stock and we will get on our site this week. The V3 nose gear, despite what is listed on our page at the moment, is not for the V4.

              Hello Tom,
I see that you have three items listed for the new struts but the descriptions are some what vague. What is the difference between the main landing gear 'system' and the 'set' ? The nose gear is just described as a system. A "photo coming soon" would certainly remove the mystery as to what I should be ordering to make the appropriate mods to my Ver3. Also, do you have a restock ETA on the A6 main gear struts?
              Best regards,

OV10, the "system" means the entire retract, strut and wheel where "set" simply means strut and wheel. I will add a description on those spare part pages to lessen the confusion.

I'm guessing that the V4 mains and nose gear won't work on the V1? Yes, I still fly the V1, which has all of those servos, and they all still work. Cowl flaps and syncing doors made this version really nice.

Tom, any room for modifications to make the new gear work on the V1-3?

This plane definitely has my attention. In looking through the assembly manual for it under the support tab, the control throws are not listed for this plane. I thought this was odd for an FMS plane. Will a new V4 manual be provided and updated on the Motion RC website?

Aros, my bad. When I originally seen no flaps, I missed the cowl part. I can live without cowl flaps.... DJ

The version 1 had all the bells and whistles. Cowl flaps, synced doors, and depending on where you bought it from, it came with either 1 or 2 pilots, and either a 50amp or 65 amp ESC. Nitroplanes offered the lesser version of those numbers. But it was the same plane. Banana offered the higher. It was originally $199, and I got mine at $195 from BH.
The version 1 had a different construction using glue to mount the tail sections.

The version 2 offered all of the above except the tail section name became a screwed down version, and the synced doors went away. Too many complaints about servos going out.

Version 3 entered in a slightly higher kv motor because the manufacturer changed, from what I understand.

And now version 4 has stripped the cowl flaps an offering the things you see now.

I still have parts for my version 1, which is why I haven't upgraded yet. But I sure do wish I could add the new gear system.

I've never owned or flown a T-28. Ever.

                                  I know, a thousand lashes... ;)

I know, I have seen several friends fly them and oooh and aaah them over their consistent, trainer, ***** cat characteristics. I admit I am horribly shallow when it comes to my warbirds...They have to look a certain way or I pass. The T-28 does nothing for me visually, but dang it if I don't keep thinking about getting one just for the sheer ease of flying...

I hear you Aros, thing is. I've never flown one I didn't like. Excellent character regardless of manufacturer. Cap and I love our FMS ones for the lights and everything else. Great speed, character and all of that. With the lights package Mike and I stay in the pattern and shoot touch and his and landings until we run out of batteries. Great plane. I'm stoked about v4. I currently have 3 Trojans in the hanger now. 2 Eflite and 1 FMS.
