How hard would it be to swap the receiver for a spektrum receiver? Is the gyro integrated into the existing futaba receiver? In other words, would swapping receivers remove the gyro?

      Ordered!

Edit: Oops, accidentally ordered the RTF version when I should have ordered the FTR version. (I use a FrSky+MPM transmitter that has the S-FHSS protocol.) According to Wes' setup video, the RTF version does NOT come with the tiny remote S-FHSS micro SBUS RX.

Unfortunately, MotionRC is closed today (Saturday) and their website doesn't seem to allow cancelling the order.

      D'oh!

        ridgerunner,

Hah, I ordered the RTF and want the Futaba Friendly setup. D'oh!

No matter, might be fun little guy to have around on those rare occasions when the wind isn't blowing here.

Love the desk stand idea. Where to display it will be the delimna.

I will probably add a few personal touches, however.

Easy. The control board has two connectors for external RX connection: 1.) an S-BUS connection, and 2.) a DSM connection for a (3-pin) Spektrum satellite RX. The control board apparently also has a built-in RX having an as-yet-undetermined protocol (which is utilized by the RTF version.)

Note that the FTR ("Futaba Transmitter Ready") version, includes a tiny Futaba S-FHSS protocol remote S-BUS RX. The RTF version does not include this remote RX.

Got this info from Wes' setup video, (linked to in the MRC product page "Videos" tab,) which is quite informative.

            Guys,

received my P-51 from MRC today, charged batts and will fly a check flight either this evening or tomorrow depending on how fast I can mow and how much windage there might be.

It is super tiny and is as advertised, VERY. .

Looking forward to this almost as much as the larger airframes. I hope I can fly in the yard, too, we'll see.

              Guys-n-Dolls,

              Quick flight review.

1)Hand Launched at full throttle (HLFT) in manual mode-Beginner Mode...Nope, not a good start.

              2) HLFT in 6G Mode-Beginner Mode...Yep, much better, but wind pushed her right and I was not fast enough on the "Up" trim.

Note: Prop just pops back on.

              3) HLFT in 6G-Beginner Mode...Up Trim added, left bank, wind pushed her hard, leveled, lost sight, pulled full up, caught it, rolled right, wind would not let her go,

throttled back downwind now, and too far away (she's small and fast) banked back around and into the pavement from 12-15 feet. Note: Prop pops back on.

              4) HLFT in 6G-Beginner Mode...Flew straight for about a nano second, banked hard left and into the pavement. Note: Prop pops back on It would seem I lost left-hand Aileron control rod and clevis in "Crash 3".

Okay, all of the above is on me and definitely a reflection of my flying. First it was probably too windy (7-10 mph) but for Kansas that's the same as zero pretty much.

Second, Ya gotta be quick since the little plane is quick and small to boot.

Thirdly, never fly this one around pavement, grass only ops IMHO.

Looked for the Control Rod and Clevis, but it is teeny tiny. There is a new clevis in the spares bag, but no rod. I will make one from the Landing Gear wire as it is the same diameter and I am not going use the LG.

Cannot wait to get her back out. We will take to the grass next time. Tamms giggled, but in the end, so did I.

              Best, LB

I'm not sure what's more difficult to fly, these high end 70/80/90mm EDF jets or these micro warbirds! Either way you have my respect (and a couple chuckles too). Carry on soldier!

Aros, Hah, I thank you, SIr.

Acknowledged and Agreed as it would of been a beautiful day to fly the A-10.

                  I shall never give up.

FYI: I called MRC early on Monday and was able to successfully cancel my order for the RTF version. (MRC customer service rocks!) Looks like the FTR version is now sold out.

I am curious what the RTF protocol is?

It's a simple glue-free wire assembly. There's a slot for the wire that you plug in. They can easily be removed as well.

                          Hey All,

After the first check ride and some minor but required repairs, we (she who must be obeyed and myself) took the 'little guy' out to the Ye Ole State Faire Grounds last evening.

Wind 3-6 mph by my calculations. After double checking for even trims all around, I throttled up and with a gentle toss upwind he was off.

Still needed to add right aileron trim and a touch of right rudder, but with the flight assist on normal, he flew as one would expect a 15" foam fighter should.

Full throws in flight assist does not allow for many aerobatics so I burned little holes in the sky and strafed a couple prairie dogs.

All in all it is a fun little plane and at least for me required constant attention during flight ops.

Its' small size allows for flying in tight spots, but it will turn into a 'dot' quickly if you're not keeping close attention.

I like it, so does Tamms, and that's as much as I could ask of any model airplane.

                          Best, LB

Elbee Are you flying it with the stock transmitter? Motion/Wes put out a recent video in the exact modification, but I did just order one and purchased a Sat rx to be able to use my Nx10 and add some expo and change the rates. My thinking is that it will fly a little larger after that.

SE, Yes, the 'game controller' looking TX.

                              I agree with your thinking.

Also, there is a "Manual" Mode and a "3D" Mode.

I had forgotten about that and plan to try each of those next time the wind is down again.

Only thing I will need to do now is add some paint details.

Minimum 200 feet in each direction or 400 feet by 200 feet should do it. You'll be turning quite a bit, but that's about all she's good at. Rolla with enough height and the 3D turned on. Loops and such at your own risk. Turning off gyro assist at your own peril, at least for me. Best, LB
