  • TiredIronGRB's LX 1600mm Corsair rebuild

I traded for an LX 1600 Corsair and like all LX planes I've seen the cosmetics are great but the hardware is junk. I've ordered a set of FMS 1700mm Corsair retracts, struts and wheels, I changed out all the servos and used a FW-190 retract to operate the tail wheel retraction. Once I get the mains converted I'm going to repaint it and do it as VMF 214/86.

Removed the middle servo and connected the two ailerons instead of having the three flaps.

Beefed up the retrace bays for the FMS retracts and got my graphics from Callie.

Nice work! The retract mounts certainly won't be going anywhere and the markings look great. However, the piece you connected to the aileron is technically part of the 3-panel flap system on the full scale aircraft. Did you do it just to increase max roll rate?

Yes, I've read that it performs better this way.

Ok, that makes sense. What are you doing with the wing fold system? I have read that that was the weak point of the airframe.

Locked it down position...the only original electrical parts are the motor and ESC.

Hi Tirediron, I've been looking for exactly this paint colour for my 1600mm Flightline Corsair. You refer to the colour as Rustoleum Satin Navy Blue. Coudl you send me a photo of the product so I can track it down? It's obviously EPO foam friendly and that's what I need. Would be very grateful fro your help?

Hey that's great! Thanks very much. Were you able to spray directly over the top of the original paint or did you need to prime it or something first? I just want to make sure it doesn't damage the EPO foam. Thanks very much for your help.

It won't hurt the foam, just use light coats.

Would the fms retracts you used work with the flightline corsair?
