Assembling the Maracana for the electric motor using the MotionRC hardware list.

The Maracana comes with a small kit to mount the electric motor and a fairly significant error was found in the factory hardware. The glued blind nuts on the firewall are for a 4mm bolt. The bolts and washer and nuts supplied are 5mm. So a builder will need to modify accordingly. I had all the hardware for 4mm installation so I used those.

I maidened the Maracana on the morning of 11/11/2024. The weather was favorable with winds light and variable. I flew with 5s 3300 batteries. The plane was stable and flew straight with throttle. The plane glides well with dead stick and very easy to land. We have thick stemmed weeds on our dirt field, and while we do keep them cut, the 14 x 10 prop managed to find them and the prop did get gouged a little, but it did not seem out of balance. I may switch out the 14-inch prop with a 13-inch one.

I used the supplied NEXA hardware for the control surfaces and they seemed tight with no fluttering movement. The plane did not require any lead weights for proper weight and balance. The plane rolled well and flew upside down well. Steering on the ground was good as the nose wheel as mounted had a decent throw to it.

For my plane, the push rod tubes were not glued in place at the factory, and they slid out of the bulkhead slots during the shipping process. I had to cut the bottom skin to access the tubes in order to refit them and epoxy them into position. The empennage was true and square and easy to glue into position.

In assembly the motor, I set an approximate right and down thrust on the motor shaft by adjusting the nuts on the 4mm bolts. I set the nuts with blue loctite.

The plane climbed really well with the matched power system.

Putting together a glow powered version of the Maracana. What is the product name/number for an on/off switch that fits the fuselage cut-out? Thanks.

Maiden my Maracana on March 16, 2025. It needed a little down and left aileron trim, but no surprises. The plane flew well with a .55 2-stroke at 3700' ASL.

Well packaged, well designed plane, went together fairly well. Only problems I had were (1) needed to sand the main wing joiner to get it to fit in each wing, (2) the landing gear/wheels gave the plane about a 4 degree up stance. There was no way to adjust the gear so I installed a smaller nosewheel to reduce the up stance to about 2 degrees.
