Okay two more great flights and then the wheel fell off on landing. A snap ring holds the wheel on and it popped off on a normal landing. The retract is locked up due to torsion and had to be replaced with an E-Flight 95-degree rotating gear set. Same unit with steel vs pot metal. I cut off the spring landing gear and the remaining strut insert was a perfect. (see the picture). Both wheel axles were replaced with a SS flat head screw. The airplane flies great and very powerful, but the gear assembly is beyond poor and needs updating. Might be my installation error, but I had to install a servo reverser on one landing gear door to get them to synch.

I also had two gear doors delaminate and separate from the airplane. I fixed them cutting a sheet metal flat gutter piece the same size and attached it to the remaining plastic frame, then bonded it with E6000 glue. Worked perfectly and the painted with Home Depot Baer spray paint to match. Looks like new.

I heartily agree, xviper. Standard procedure for me for many years. I don't think I've had a C clip come off unexpectedly with the foam tac dab on the clip.Originally posted by xviper View PostSomething I learned from RCInformer years ago. Anytime you have a "C" clip holding something on, put a dab of FoamTac over the C-clip. Holds it on but can be removed later if required. There is no reason for things coming off due to a clip coming off.

Additionally, when it comes time to remove a clip, as in changing a worn out wheel, with some old FoamTac goo still on it, it's less likely to go zinging across the room when you unclip it. In fact, it even helps to put a bit of goo on the tool one uses to remove the clip. I've been known to use fine jeweler's screw driver or a pointy awl. A dab of FoamTac on the end is like having a small rare earth magnet on the driver shaft. (Wipe it on and let it get a little tacky.)

Ok, i fixed my receiver issue, it was a bad receiver. Good to know about the wheels, Ill glue the c clamps and maybe make a cover for better looks. I was curious what would happen if you flew it with 6s, The boxes of the esc and motor say up to 12s on them , just curious, so i dont need to buy 5s just for this plane but i might need to. Glad to hear its powerful are you all mostly using the base electric setup or gas? Im still building mine. Currently im adding a retractable tail wheel.

Has anyone flown this plane with the fg33 r3 radial motor? Whats is like? I have been working on adding a tail retract. So far good. Though it might be a little flimsy. Im using the retract from the 1600m corsair from flightline. Im thinking of trying the Robart tail retract to see if that has a more robust design.
As far as the adding weight to the front I haven't heard anything yet.
