    Eflite Corsair 1.2m repaint

Well I got bored and I'm going to try and make a thread about taking my Eflite Corsair from the blue/green marine training squadron scheme to the popular NAS Olathe Restve training unit scheme.

Ill be taking pictures along the way. So for starters I pulled the main wing off and started sanding down the paint. Just enough to get a good scuff. I used 600 grit. I tried going the route RC Geek used with the acetone but I was an hour into it and had about a 5" by 5" area striped of paint. It was a major pain so I just went the sanding route. It should still work fine.

I ordered the Olathe graphics through Callie and I'll be using tamiya spray paints. As well as a satin clear for the final touches and AK interactive landing gear and exhaust washes for weathering detail.

If anyone has has done any custom paint work to their corsairs I'd like to see some pictures! Today I only got the sanding done and a small amount of priming. I only stopped because I realized I didn't buy enough haha.

Well I'm all primed and just shot my panel lines. I used Krylon plastic spray white primer. Model masters, thinned down through a Paasche air brush, for the panel lines(flat black). None of this ate the foam up but I also held the primer can about 12" from the foam to give the propellant time to disperse. As for the model masters with paint thinner, I controlled the flow with the brush itself so I could get in to about an inch away. Next step will be to start painting once all of this settles.

Here is a shot of what it looks like now.

The only reason I haven't purchased this Corsair is because of the color scheme, I really don't like Green. I'm looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Buy this plane! Seriously this is one fantastic plane, I have two of them and love them...the only thing I changed was the prop (13" Unique Hobbies Corsair prop) and the green will grow on you.

Out of the box it really is the perfect corsair. Sans gear doors of course. I think it would've really drove it home has they put gear doors. It flies GREAT! I just picked up more paint so I'll be applying the white and gray today. I'll post pictures soon.

As as far as the green, it's does grow on you. Helps with visibility too. I was just bored with it and though the Olathe scheme is super cool.

The only 3S batteries I have are 1800 and 3300's. I looked at some pictures and it looks like a 3300 might fit.

Anyone running anything larger than a 2200?

I watched Motions flight review and there is plenty of room for the 3300's. Sigh, I'll probably have one at the end of the week.

              I'm a sucker for Corsairs.

Any mods needed to get that prop to fit?

How did it effect the speed?

With the bigger prop does it bog the motor down at all?

Well, the paint is finished. I really hate peeling tape off because it's never low enough tac to leave the paint in this dang EPO so I definitely had some minor touch ups. But next step will to be the Callie Graphics. Here are some pics of how everything turned out.

Paints I used were Tamiya Aircraft spray paints. I was going to shoot the plane with my airbrush but decided it wasn't a must. I 'll be using AK Interactive aircraft washes for panel lines, and oil stains. Then I'll finish up with air brushing some of the finer details like exhaust burns and touch up primer spots, since the original aircraft had primer touch up spots all over it.

Tamiya Colors were, flat white, navy blue(USN), light gray(USAF) and flat black.

Well I applied the Callie Graphics this evening and here is the finished product. The kit was missing one large white "K" though for the top of the right wing and the aircraft model and BuNo number under the stabs for the fuselage were wrong so I did not put them on. No big deal. I'm making a stencil for the K based off the K's on the tail.

Next up is weathering and airbrushing!
