  • AH-1 Skyraider 1600mm

Howdy all. I wanted to get a 1600mm Skyraider and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or sources please? SEA camo would be great, but grey will do... Thanks!!! Jerry

A quick Google search turned up these two.

Thank you! I had seen the ESM. Banana Hobby had a foamie 1600mm, but it is discontinued. Didn't see the one from SIG. It may be an option, but I didn't know if the community had another source for foam in the 1600mm size. Thanks again!!! My wife was born in Newton, IA. Down the road from you a bit....

When Banana carried the Skyraider it was made by Starmax.
The mold was then picked up by HSD and upgraded and then sold by Dragon Hobby.
After only a year and half of production HSD discontinued it.
I have one and it is a great flying bird but the rotation pin in the retract is the weak link in the gear system.
Dragon has 3 remaining of the version without an ESC.

I too would absolutely :Poo: if FlightLine got those molds and did some more upgrades and released a better Spad. ;)

Just received the Skyraider today via UPS from Dragon Hobby. Opened the box and it sure looks nice and reminds me of the A-10 in how solid if feels. I see the fuselage has air brakes that are hinged, but do they have servos in there? Didn't want to unpack another plane until the others are done!:Drinks: If they don't have servos, they will soon!!! ;)

I'm sure they do, sounds like it's going to be a sweet plane

I am already trying to figure out if the A-10 ordnance (bombs) will fit it too... It comes with some, but why not have a variety of loadout?? :-)

yes the airbrakes have servos... be vewy vewy caweful with landings..the main gear is horrible, and you will most likely loose one of those rotating pins... ontop of that , the legs are very weak where those pins go through, mine eventually snapped ..even with being gentle on touchdown.

OK!! Thank you for the info and the heads-up! I figured as much. But I have the Flyzone FW-190 and the Flyzone Corsair and those two are really fragile. I only fly them off concrete and wheel land them gently. That is the plan for this one!! I hope! Ha!

I wonder if the FMS P-40 retracts with Small CNC Parts side plates would work in this bird? If they are even close, that would be awesome as an upgrade....

I also have those two Flyzone planes I changed out the retracts on the 190. I installed the Freewing V1 retracts with the pockets much better.

                              Congrats Hardway,
Agree with ya about the ordinance loadout. When HSD got the molds from Starmax they reduced the wing pylons from 6 which is scale to 4 :(
I took the two 2000gal drops from my Seagull Skyraider and installed one as a centerline on the HSD and the other as a centerline on the FW A-10.
Those airbrakes do have servos and I put them on my rotary knob.......full range variable control :Smug:
The HSD has it's faults like most any other foam ARFs. Its really only weak aspect was the gear but like I just said, so do most of the rest of the ARFs
The rotation pin coming out is not an issue anymore with this mod of mine published 11 months ago.

The legs that TSH speaks of can be weak but that is only if they are abused enough.
Gentle landings to some peoples perspective looks like somebody dropping a bowling ball from 10 ft in my eyes. ;) Seen enough of those vids :Scared:and then they bitch about :Poo:Y gear
My struts are still going strong and it is blast to hear that big 16" paddle shredding air on a 10 ft off the deck high speed pass (and RR's foam LOL)
                              ENJOY

Looks like my control board is out or something. My gear will not cycle and the LEDs will not light.... Can you guys help me out on the control board wiring or is there anything special I need to do to make this work? The retracts only have a red and black wire, so I assume you must use the landing gear control board? Any help would sure be appreciated!!! I am kind of bummed right now.... :-(

Yes, you MUST use the gear control box. It is getting it's 7.2vdc from the main box distribution. If memory serves me right there are a couple points on the main box for led connections.
Help is only as far away as a good photo of your connections. ;)

Thank you so much! I boxed it back up yesterday, so I have to dig it out again. I noticed one lead going to the retract control box is labeled 4V dc. The control box does run off 7.2V dc? I will get it out now and see what we can see!!! :-) I appreciate the help!
