  • Anyone Into Unlimited Hydros?

I grew up just miles from the Unlimited Hydros...Hearing the piston boats (the same motors that were in some of our most treasured WWII warbirds) in the 70's, that turned to the quieter whine of the jet turbines in the 80's. A total fanboy to be sure.

I am in the process of building my all-time favorite hydro...The 1982 Miss Pay N' Pak. The first ever turbine unlimited hydroplane. A 1/8 scale FE (Fast Electric) version. I was curious if anyone else here is into unlimiteds? Better yet, RC 1/8 scale unlimiteds?

If so I will be happy to continue this thread with details, info, video and photos. If not, no biggie, just checking to see if there is any interest.

That's great! Love the homage to the Circus Circus! What year is that 3 wing? Love the CF as well. Here's some photos of the build of my 82 Pak. I think my builder is beyond tired of me as I am super picky about scale details but he is doing an excellent job. Very lucky to have found him.

Thanks! I'll pass that along to the builder. He's finishing it up and I should be able to pick it up in a few weeks or so. I'll be responsible for priming/painting/clearing and decals.

Wesleys does a great decal set but so does Kevin Ross if he still does it. You can paint a pak though no decals. Here's a link to another build you mite like.

I have a decal set I have paid for, just waiting for shipment. He's less than communicative which makes me nervous. Who is Wesleys and Kevin Ross? Any website links or contact info? Just in case my guy flakes. Thanks!

Mike McKnight is the guy I am using, lol! I am happy to report he responded to me today, said he had two big jobs to finish and mine should be sent out soon. Thanks again for your help!

Also, any idea where I could get a nice 1/8 scale driver? The one's I've seen so far are 3D printed and open face mask. My first 1/8 Pak, someone custom designed the driver and did a fantastic job using proper materials, etc.

Happy to report the build is finished! He did a masterful job. Super pleased. All that's left for me is buying the radio, prop, receiver, and painting/decals.

That is going to finish out nicely Aros. What motor and esc are you running? How many cells? Did you ask mike about a driver for it? Also dont forget your turbine stack.

Thanks! The motor is listed as "SSS 850KV Combination". The ESC is "Hobbywing 130HV ESC". Not sure yet on battery size? I suppose I should try to figure that out! lol...

I didn't ask Mike about a driver, does he have those? I just assumed he was decals only?

I think he can source you a driver. Just ask...

A 130 amp esc seems a little low BTW. I think youll need at least a 200.

Okay I'll have to check that out...That was the recommended setup from Rattlesnake RC (Bill Brandt) so I would be surprised if he recommended an underpowered ESC?

Good news, I found a driver. Perfect!

3" Driver Figure - light weight solid cast. - Painted safety Orange helmet. - Hand sewn shirt and padded vest. - Made one at a time by Bonzi Sports. - fits 50" Bonzi with driver hatch, 51" Baja, 54" Fountain with driver hatch, 60" EPIC or 84" Classic and most other RC boats.
