  • Wish list - Scale Sailboats

I'd love to see scale sailboats, not just the modern types.

    Schooners especially.

Other scale ideas are Viking Longboats, Hobie Catamarans, America's Cup Racers etc.

    Love all things scale

I agree, I love everything scale, and everything sail, too!

I'll second a nice size schooner. There used to be several kits on the market but they've gone out of circulation.

I'd kill for a gaff rigged cutter but be sure its a true sailor & not a motorized show boat like KY's Belle Margot offered in Europe.

Steel, Chapman & Hutchinson Ltd. used to make three square rigged ship kits designed from the start for radio control but they appear to have gone out of business. Website has been down for some time & domain up for sale. Very nice & expensive kits that would demand a long but rewarding build.

You'll find several builds & some excellent discussion on how to sail these wonderful models over at RC Groups. Here's Dan L's original thread that is great place to begin.

For a simple scale sail that can cater to a more mainstream market, I'd suggest something like the French Youpi class of gaff rigged cutters. Its a recognized class & can be offered as RTR or kit.

Something in the 12 meter Americas Cup Series. Good sails with formed ribs.
