Heng Long T34 build and test review.

I'm planning on Berlin air identification white stripes. That oughta stand out in the field! I do see what others were talking about regarding dry decals. The turret surface is quite rough. I may try some Peddinghaus water slide decals.

On inspecting the tank, I found a broken metal swing arm axle, on the right side. I'll get Toucan to replace it, and I can run it around home with four road wheels on one side, but does anyone know of any spares kicking around San Diego?

I have a few spares but I am 2 hours from you.

Hey guys, got a question. I received my T-34 today and of course need to open it up - I use XT-30 connectors on all my tanks for their compactness. I've removed the four screws on the bottom. The front lifts up but not the back. Secret screws, or a tab? I don't want to push the top either way for fear of breaking something. Help me! 😁

Edit: Oops, never mind. Yes, there are two "hidden" screws in the back underneath the fenders. I got it.

Saw that book online, glad I saw your opinion. Yeah, there was a directive to paint T-34s camo, but evidently it wasn’t done much. Supposedly it was base green, brown over 30% and sand over 10%, approximate, to be done in the field. I’ll probably follow that guideline if I camo it up. Tamiya makes a USAF Olive Green that can pass as a start for a faded tank color.

I've done a fair bit of research on T-34-85 colors as I wanted something different and mainly middle east colors and schemes for T-34's. With what available photographic evidence there is the vast majority of middle east "Egyptian" T-34's were single color desert tan. The Syrian, Afghan, Yemen and Lebonese T-34's have photographic evidence with two and 3 color "desert" schemes but even these either had the usual "Olive" base coat which was either partially or overall painted over with a tan, brick red or charcoal color. There are color photo's of T-34-85's in the Cairo museum painted in an "Egyptian" 4 color scheme that was used on their later T-55's but there is no photo evident of operational T-34's with this scheme.
The Finns, Pole's and Greek's had some muli-color schemes but from what I have been able to determine the vast majority of most T-34's of most forces were the usual overall "Olive" color.

I picked up this book hoping to enhance my online research and even though it's an excellent reference and I recommend it, it essentially only confimed what I had concluded from all my online research.


I still have a lot to learn about armor and period color schemes but this is my 2 cents on the T-34-85.

I’m planning on repainting a T34/85. I see online that there were camouflage schemes that not all tanks, but some did. Has anyone done camo schemes on theirs, and what colors were used. I’m thinking that Tamiya’s olive green spray would make a good base color. Any opinions? If I don’t do camo, I may add the ‘1945 Berlin’ white striping.

Thanks. By the way, I asked them when/if the Stug III would be reissued in 6.0. They replied quickly after contacting China. They said winter, that one is not a popular one (it is for me!)

Me too! I am thinking of getting the older version and upgrading it myself.

Well, the T-34 was not in the batch that came to Motion. I don't want to wait for another 2 to 3 months so I bought one from Heng Long's official store. Paid more for shipping but it came in a week.

Did you put those blue motors in there or did it come with them?

I installed the blue motors. That is why I had opened it up. Then I noticed the newer smoker unit.

I opened up my new T-34 and found that the smoker unit has a blower instead of a pump. That was a pleasant surprise!

You are correct. I just read through the tank request thread and Alpha says that the T-34 will be in the next batch. Plus the Professional edition will have barrel recoil and metal road wheels. Nice!

Alpha So if the obvious question hasn’t been asked yet are these coming in the next shipment I might need one. After seeing all these amazing custom tanks I kinda need one to go in my fleet.

I would also like to know if Motion RC will be carrying the T-34 in the next shipment. I don't see why it would need to be a secret. Not that I am accusing.
