HengLong Compatible IR Receiver (by LegoDEI) Installation Examples + Help
This is a thread dedicated to resources as well as Q&A for installing the new HengLong compatible IR Receiver made by LegoDEI available here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LegoDEI
Feel free to also append your own installation pictures to this thread to assist other tankers. Many users so far such as Beeg and Rubicon99 have been tremendously helpful in providing advice and help to those who need it; this thread is also an effort to compile all of the info in one easy to find location, and also hopefully save everyone from the need of repeating explanations.
Wiring and Electronics
In the current package, 5 Dupont connector wires are included for easy plug and play installation with the tk6.0 controller as shown in the picture below courtesy of Beeg
A clean diagram is also provided for convenience.
The single connectors can be either glued or taped together for convenience, to group them into 2 and 3-pin connectors. At the users discretion, the 3 wires for the IR signal can also be re-crimped with a JST-XH plug if desired, although this is not necessary. The dupont connectors are cross-compatible with the JST-XH sockets intrinsically.
As for which channel to plug the LED lights in, Rubicon99 summarizes the options available currently.
Option 1. Plug into the taillight slot and forgo taillights.
Option 2. Splice IR lead wires into the taillight lead wires and run concurrently with the taillights. Super easy to do. I have this set up on one of my tanks. Personally I think it is your best option. You will still need to turn off the taillights to turn off the IR hit indication LEDs.
Option 3. You can use slots 6,7 or 8. These are for the brake lights and L/R turn signals. Unfortunately I have not found a way to turn these on and off so the IR LEDs will stay lighted which is not advantageous for battling as folks will mistake this as your tank is dead or just received a hit.
Physical Mounting
It is generally recommended to mount the receiver over the hatch as seen in the below pictures courtesy of Rubicon99 and Beeg . The receiver end of the wires can be glued into place with minimal filing/shell cutting.
If one has access to a 3D printer Vaseline has contributed a printable mounting socket / stand, which can be adjusted in height and diameter to suit the desired mounting clearances and hatch diameters: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4384598Tags: None
