    Heng Long Abrams Problems

    Hi all

Got the tank yestersday. No body/barrel recoil, no cannon lifting. Turret could not do 120 wihout catching. Wires inside is tight like piano wire and stripped by a slight touch. Complete mess inside. 300 bucks down the drain. Nuff said! Dai

That was the one you got thru Amazon, that didn't specify 6.0, but said it had more than 6.0 modifications? Bad luck. Who was the seller?
The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Post a few photos of the inside. Could be easy things to fix.
If it’s a 5.3 system then it will not look or work at all like a 6.0 system

Is the on off switch on the bottom?

It is the 6.0S system. The wires are so tight and poorly routed that when the turret turns and binds, it rip the wires out. I am trying to put things back together now. Should not really have to do this. Really. Dai

The MFU board is bad because CN3 ( turret turning ) no long works. I transfered onto the CN4 and the turret motor moves. So I took a 6.0S board from my Sherman and installed into the Abrams. For the past 45" I could not bind the new MFU !!! Dai

Can someone help me with the binding issue? Thanks Dai

Still no go so borrowed a 6.0 MFU and it binds tight away. The problem now is turret binding. The wires are so short that they pull the MFU/wires up against the turret making free movement w/o binding impossible. HL just stuffs things in there and if they bind, then tough it. Such poor quality engineering. Dai

For 3 hours I have been trying to get the turret turning 360 w/o binding but most I get is 120. Maybe because of the engineering I may have to live with 120 degree rotation. Dai

Try turning the MFU around with the motors wires pointed toward the motors.

Also is this a 360 turret with slip ring. If so the slip ring could be the issue. I have seen these have issues.

After 2 hours more, I finally was able to do 2 rotations without binding so I closed the hulls. But then I realized the tank was going backwards so the hulls need to be opened up and wires switched. Now the turret binds again and I was only able to get like 200 degree rotations w/o binding. I think the binding could be due to other factors beside the wires. Still puzzled me on why the 6.0s MFU failed to bind and with ease on the 6.0. Dai

Based on your photo above it would appear your turret wires are contacting other MFU wires (the motor wires). There is a high possibility that they are catching on other wires and this is causing your issues.

Personally I would move the MFU to the front of the tank and run the motor wires tucked down the side of the battery box. This would clean the wire layout up and keep the MFU away from the motors. The old Abrams used to have the MFU along side of the battery box and the wires tucked neatly away from the turret rotation unit.

That is what I wanted to do but the cables are too short to move the MFU. Are there small wires available that I can spice them to make them longer? Dai

I want to replace the HL main power cable (left photo) as it was ripped by the turret. Howver all I coud find was a cable along with the battery connector (right photo). Can I just buy this and ignore the battery cable? Dai

I just splice some extra wire “in line” with the exciting wire to lengthen then. Wire can be found at any hobby store or HomeDepot type store.

Nope. Use the entire thing. Just make the whole the plug runs through a little larger if needed to fit it into the bat box.

So it does not matter if the extension wire is a little bit larger than the original wire right? I would like to get the same size and do you know the size? Dai

The original set up has the banana plugs of the MFU go into the battery leads. With the new switch, the bannana plugs on the MFU are unused right? Dai

Power from the battery goes to the MFU plugs. You will have to wire the new switch accordingly. Not hard red to red blk to blk.

Doesn’t matter one bit with these simple systems.

I will do what Rubicon99 suggested. Lengthen the wires and move the MFU all the way to the front and tuck the wires on the side. The way the MFU/wires are brushing up against the turret, binding will result. Dai
