You can straighten a bent axle fairly easily. Just disassemble the gearbox and remove the axle, clamp it in a vice, and grab the bent axle with your pliers, and CAREFULLY bend it back straight. The metal is soft and can be straightened fairly easily. Just be careful not to overdo it.
