  • Help with gaining knowledge for RC IR battles

Hi, I have rented some IR tanks at different IR battlefields in the past and I feel intrigued by it. I am also an armored warfare buff and I play several tank video games, so I like the idea of IR battles.
I am looking into buying a Tamiya RC tank kit (M551 Sheridan) and I wanted to know if the base kits included the motors, batteries, and the IR battle system kit, or do I have to buy those separately? Plus, are these RC kits as complex as regular non-RC models where you glue every tiny minuscule part (in other words is it simple enough not to screw up?)
    Thanks

Tamiya kits are just that....kits. They come in 1000 pieces and you have to assemble everything. Don’t let that scare you because the instructions are pretty good. Once you built a Tamiya kit anything Heng Long, Torro or Taigen is super simply by comparison.

Tamiya tanks do not come with batteries, radio controllers or battle systems. Those you have to buy separately. I would suggest buying the battle system and installing it as part of your initial build as it can be a PIA to go back and install it after the fact.

The Sheridan is a decent model but it has some weakness. It’s tracks are not as strong as other Tamiya modern tanks designs and do break easier. So make sure if you buy the Sheridan you also buy a dozen or so extra track links for it. Other then that it’s a pretty fun build and a good running tank.

I have a bunch of photos and short videos of mine and other tanks on Instagram @ fsttanks. Feel free to take a look.
