KV-85

So, those of you who follow my daily posts (!) know I finished my T34 85 to 76 conversion. This has left me with a perfectly good 85 turret. Following someone else on this forum, and having one of Heng Long's static KV-1's in a box, I've decided to assemble a KV-85. there are differences, some of which I will incorporate and some more trouble than it'd be worth. I popped off the side armor plates. I see that some KV-85's put a machine gun in the rear of the turret, and some don't have a front hull mg.

I'm open to suggestions as to how much I should alter, guys.

Wow, you are way too fast. I think when I was at the LA battle event earlier this month, I saw a KV-85 brought in to fight from one of the members.

Technically the KV with a T34 turret was know as a KV-34-85-I

It was thought to have existed in 1943 and was even written about in books on Russian WW2 armor. It was only discovered in the late 90, I believe, that the tank never made it off the drawing boards.

Great photo by the way! It captured the moment right when my M26 “Beast Master” scored a hit on the King Tiger top left( see photo below). You can see the “hit indicator” LEDs lighting up.


Oh that was my “KV85” shown it’s the one I let you borrow that day.

I enjoyed fighting with that KV-34-85. It was very solid and the tracks were so wide that it rode over everything. Thank you!

We are working on that. A member picked it up on the side of the freeway a couple weeks before the event. Any bidder on the this paint job ?

If 1) it hasn't been done already, and 2) I get up to LA in September, I'll do it. it won't show back up until October though. If I don't go in Sept, and Rich does, maybe he can bring it back to SD with him.

Anytime one can add buildings to a field is a good thing. It was just brought in that day and we ALL said through it out on the field. IT IS being painted so hold your horses with the comments. You can make those when we all see your battle field with all its perfectly built and painted buildings.

I did not bring the building but the one who did is a well know contributor here and one of the best R/C tank builder I know. I for one am happy he has the imagination to see the potential of the building.

Hey hey that Barbie castle was mine…… for about two weeks. I pulled it out of a neighbors trash can. Good field prop score. I rather liked it 😆
counting the two buildings I delivered to LA Tank this month that makes 5 hard fixed buildings I’ve donated to them. I just don’t have room to store buildings at home.

Just when I thought it was safe....

..to engage in assembling the T-34 turret and KV-1 chassis, Vandra releases this:



a ZIK-20 SPG with a 152mm gun conversion. I won't do it, I already have enough tank destroyers, but you never know when boredom will prompt an impulse!

You might look into the Hooben T-55 kit. Its very Tamiya-esk and priced quite well. DKLM has carried them for about 275 for years. Just need to have your own MFU system. Almost bought one about 3 times over the years.

So how long have you all been in this hobby? I found an old photo of my KV-1E dated 2009! Note the old style IR mushroom and the required antenna for 27mhz. Long gone.

As far back as Tamiya was making motorized model tanks. Hand held battery packs with push buttons and wires leading to the tank. I had a panther, jadgepanther and t34 85 all in 1/25 scale. Put on zimmerit using auto body filler. Also had the 1/16 sherman 105 and the 1/15 stug IV by... Bandai maybe? Gear boxes were absolute crap back then so none of them ran for long. Then life got in the way for 30 + years and I just got back into it in the last year. Lots of nice improvements!
