So how long have you all been in this hobby?

When did I join this forum? Uhm... since June? Always been into static models, 1/72 and 1/48 scale WW2 aircraft mostly. Got into tanks through WarThunder (which I played as motion-sickness therapy) and the adds that show up when you do that. Adds for the Heng Long Sherman I got as my first. And I now have... 9 tanks? Ye gods... I hadn't actually counted them yet... Oh, and today a 1/14 scale Willies and 1/16 scale truck came in...

Bought my first Tamiya 1/16 RC King Tiger in 1995. It was $500. That was the only RC tank I had until HL Tiger I came out.

You might look into the Hooben T-55 kit. Its very Tamiya-esk and priced quite well. DKLM has carried them for about 275 for years. Just need to have your own MFU system. Almost bought one about 3 times over the years.

Agreed - it makes a good tank but requires a lot of adjustment and fettling. HL 6.1s MFU works well with it.

If 1) it hasn't been done already, and 2) I get up to LA in September, I'll do it. it won't show back up until October though. If I don't go in Sept, and Rich does, maybe he can bring it back to SD with him.

Per your request, I took the mansion home after the LA battle last weekend. I read your post and I bought 4 spray cans according to the colors you recommended. I had some prime spray cans at home and primed it yesterday. Today I did it in 1/2 hour. I left two rooms saved from the fire :-) I hope to get your approval Bob. Any changes, let me know :-)

So, those of you who follow my daily posts (!) know I finished my T34 85 to 76 conversion. This has left me with a perfectly good 85 turret. Following someone else on this forum, and having one of Heng Long's static KV-1's in a box, I've decided to assemble a KV-85. there are differences, some of which I will incorporate and some more trouble than it'd be worth. I popped off the side armor plates. I see that some KV-85's put a machine gun in the rear of the turret, and some don't have a front hull mg.

I'm open to suggestions as to how much I should alter, guys.

Bob! Have you finished your KV-85? May we see it? I am thinking of getting a KV-1 and a T34/85. I will make a KV-85 first similar to yours and R99. And from the left overs of both, I will make a T34/KV. What do you think :-) ? Do both of their turrets match with each other hulls? Thanks!

Hi David. I only have one photo of the KV-85. Putting the 85 turret on a KV-1 is dirt simple, all "small ring" HL tank turrets have the same dimensions. Just be aware that the result looks kinda like a KV-85, but the real turret has many detail differences. There is someone in Russia on Instagram who shows a more accurate turret, but we haven't been able to find out if he is selling it.



I made the KV-85 because I got a 76 turret for the T-34. I've since used the KV chassis for the Zik-20 SPG. I placed the 85 turret back on the T-34 while I try to re-engineer the 76's barrel elevation setup.

So you are all set with all the parts :-) I have too many things to do now, but I will swap the 2 to make the T34/KV and KV-85 in December :-)

The gearboxes and the metal running gears came from USPS yesterday. It took me an hour to put everything on since I bought the KV-1 as a static tank. It did not have much of anything inside. It runs now. I will paint it after Xmas. I am ready to joint R99 and Bob's KV-85 platoon :-)

Then you are planning on building better props that can be stored and handled roughly for use on the LA battle field or wherever? If not, the Barbie house (now painted) is actually a fairly good and durable prop. Don’t knock it until you tried playing with it on a field and then have to store in an over packed shed.

Actually I already did. These break down to store flat. They use magnets to assemble. The Reichstag in this photo got plowed into by a model airplane. It has since been rebuilt and has all four walls. Everything is in 1/16 scale. I have many more then just this photo including a German Sub that is waterline only and measures 8'.

I have provided LA tank with several buildings that were large plastic assemblys. The Barbie house, a doll house and a few damaged city building playsets probably from some type of military figure line. The add a nice theme to the field that was otherwise not there and we enjoy using them. Its more than we had before.
