I'll be there. If anyone has a spare Heng Long M4 Sherman they would be willing to donate, I'm wanting to make a "Camera Tank Mk 2". I put a GoPro on a 1:30 scale HL tank to get eye level video. I posted a video of the test run:

I took the unit out to a field today. What I found was the little tank is quite a bit slower than our 1:16 tanks, also it has no sprung suspension and radio range is about 40 feet.. Not a deal killer, I'll still bring it, but if folks like it, I have a 1:16 Sherman I can place a modified (read cannibalized) turret with the camera on for future use.

Here is today's field trial. Although Youtube states it's HD, it's not as clear as the native GoPro footage.

The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Good excuse to build a BARV, Bob. Plenty of room in the castle for camera ;-)
      Sherman M4A3 105mm Houwitser / Sherman Firefly IC *under construction* / Panzer IV *awaiting side-grade from TK7.0S to TK6.0S* / Stug III / King Tiger / KV-1 *awaiting upgrade to TK6.0S* / Tiger I / T34-85 / Leopard 2A6 *waiting upgrade to TK7.0*... No, I do not have a problem....

I had mounted a go pro on Jerome's sherman and had someone chase us around with it. Didnt come out all that well.
Yours has a better depth of field I think than mine did. I borrowed the Gopro when did it. For some reason it just sucked. But also, the thing is who is going to give up battling a tank to drive a camera rig?
When I used to be in the 1:96 scale RC fleet we would take a 16 inch turret off a battleship and install a whole video hand cam. That was back before digital cameras and gopros. Watching the movies was fun. Even the one where a collision knocked the poor camera into the pond. It filmed all the way to the bottom for a few seconds.(fresh water)

Maybe we could find a way to mount the Go Pro right on a battling tank? Ive also thought about a slow speed rock crawler with a turret to do filming, it would maybe ride better and not be as shaky.

So the RR Depot field is completely bare. It’s been mowed down. So there is no cover anywhere at all.
if you have any kind of field props or bunkers or things like that bring them to the battle to set up for more cover.

Why Magic Mountain? LegoLand is right across the street in walking distance from the SD field. Plus the weather and drive down to SD is so much nicer then LA.

Sea World is across the street, not legoland. We go there all the time. Its quite worth it.

Tanks are charged and ready to go in the morning. I plan on arriving early to get one of the limited close parking spaces. See everyone tomorrow.

I placed a GoPro on a 1:30 scale rc tank and followed a 1:16 scale M-41 Bulldog at our monthly battle. The camera tank has no suspension so it's jiggly. I'll be working on a smoother platform...

That worked great. Vibration wasn't bad at all. And what a nice battle area. I did a 10 min drive with my challenger 2 today and then spent 30 min cleaning the dead leaves, vines and twigs out of the tracks and wheels. The arid south west has definite advantages over Maine for our hobby.
