  • US Tank Decal Question

I have this set of US decals. I would like to use them. I had no luck searching the web. Does anyone know which type of tank that has them on? Thank you!

From what I remember the yellow outline was most common during the North African and later the Italian campaign. I think most probably on Stuarts and Lees in N.Africa?
        Sherman M4A3 105mm Houwitser / Sherman Firefly IC *under construction* / Panzer IV *awaiting side-grade from TK7.0S to TK6.0S* / Stug III / King Tiger / KV-1 *awaiting upgrade to TK6.0S* / Tiger I / T34-85 / Leopard 2A6 *waiting upgrade to TK7.0*... No, I do not have a problem....

So I can just put them on any of my Shermans? Or is there a specific type of Sherman to make it look "almost" right?

Not a raving Shermanholic, but in my mind’s eye I am seeing them as more appropriate for non-M4A3 - think single hatch M4 turret - Shermans and Lees

That said, they’d be mudded over once crews realized they made great aiming points for PaK crews

Only early Sherman’s and Lee’s has the yellow stripe on the turret. Was not used in Italy or Europe. In Italy they actually often didn’t paint stars and markings or painted over them. Even on early Sherman’s.
do some research on photos on google

This is all I could find about the yellow circles.. Invasion of Sicily

'On 3 July 1943, AFHQ signaled its units: 'For urgent operational reasons, all vehicles for 'Operation Husky' which have white stars will have circles widened to at least double the present size. Yellow paint to be used if possible. If not, then white, blue or red in that order of priority.'

With all of my Sherman having white stars on their hulls, I now a a tank to put those extra yellow decals on.

There is also another Sherman on Craigslist. It is un-assemble still in the box, but it is the East coast.

$550 is a cheap price. Now if the guy would ship it even at $100 for shipping it would still be a cheap price for a full option Sherman.
