So does anyone know why it's so hard to get Heng Long tanks? They have a pretty good selection but I can really only find just a few types of tanks for sale. And even less that don't have the price jacked up high. I understand Covid has not helped the world in delivering goods but it's still difficult to find them. Just wish it was easier for me to pick and choose which amazing tank I wanted to order. Please help.

Look at Toucan hobbies on EBay. If you are in the US only shop for in stock US tanks and make sure they are 6.0 or higher electronics.

Prices for HL tanks run between $200 and $500 delivered depending on the option/upgrades. The cheap ones under $200 are at that price point for a reason.

You probably need to put out a little more time browsing. What type of HL tank are you searching for? I am not into Russian post WW2 tanks, so I don’t know about those T-70 or T-90. But for the rest, I got them all. Those that you can’t find in RTR, get them in static. Then buy a 6.0s board, steel gearboxes, a cable set and a few items that are missing from the inside once you open it up. And ...voila...you have you specific tank. It is a learning hobby and the senior members in this forum are great educators to help you understanding the inside of your tanks. My humble input.

It seems the M26 is tough to find. I do like building one up idea.

The M26 in 6.0 and up is hard to find because they were low on the priority list when HL did their tank update In 2019 thru late 2020.

You would have to buy an older 5.3 version and then upgrade it to a 6.0 or higher system. A basic 6.0 should run you no more the $60 because you will need not only the electronics but a 6.0 plus transmitter.

All this is reasonable easy to find on EBay. Again check out Toucan there as they often have everything you need to convert older tanks over to the newer system.

Be confident and enjoy. When I first joined this forum in June, I did not know much of anything. I only built static displayed models. By now, I have converted 30 tanks.

I bought this static M26 from Toucan for around $100. After installing the internal parts including the lights, steal gearboxes and the outside with steel idlers, sprocket, and tracks, the tank is running good. It has front LED lights, rear red LED lights, MG light. It's fun. I have just realized that I need to paint the sprockets and idlers. They are still bare metal. I will do them tomorrow :-)

Riddle me this Batman. Could I take a regular 1/16 scale model tank and install RC components into it and it work? Basically any type of tank type with HL parts? Or does it not work like that? Just wondering.

Yes. IF you have the modeling skills to do it.

Buy a static one, and buy a RTR one (same kind is better but not necessary). Open both of them, take pictures and slowly work on your static one to bring it up to RC :-)

Not sure I have the money to buy two at once.

But I do think I can figure out how to add the mechanics to a static model.

There's plenty of people turning 1/16 scale models into RC models, here on this forum and on others (for example on https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk). Some just show their finished work but are happy to answer questions, other do extensive build threads. So you don't have to fly solo on that one.
