    Sooo....

I picked this up for €50,-...

Should I laugh? Cry? Start questioning my life choices?

(And as you might have notices; I've stopped counting...)
    Sherman M4A3 105mm Houwitser / Sherman Firefly IC *under construction* / Panzer IV *awaiting side-grade from TK7.0S to TK6.0S* / Stug III / King Tiger / KV-1 *awaiting upgrade to TK6.0S* / Tiger I / T34-85 / Leopard 2A6 *waiting upgrade to TK7.0*... No, I do not have a problem....

What you have there is a true diamond in the rough!!! $65 US is frankly a steal. That is one of the older versions of the Tamiya M4 which has been discontinued. Tamiya no longer sells an M4 style of tank. In that shape it would sell in the US for an easy $500 if not more simply just for the parts.

Now it does need some work (how much?) and a control system but on the low end (using HL 6.0,6.1 or 7.0 MFU) you can get it up and running for under $100 US.

So IMO you lucked out big time. I would have snatched that tank up, cleaned, slap some new paint on add a HL 6.1 and turned around and sold it for 10X the price paid for it.

Something of note: The tank has HL gearboxes which are not made to fit the Tamiya Shermans. Could you please take some close up photos of the gearboxes and how they were installed. This is a huge plus if they work reliably in the tank. The Tamiya gearboxes are excellent running but lack durability so having HL gearboxes with their durability would improve the Tamiya M4. I know their are others that would like to do this mod so seeing how the approach was taken with installation would be helpful to all.

Why cry? A tank is a tank :-). You have gotten it. Now it's time put the necessary components in it and make it run. I am glad you took it out the hands of its previous owner .

Yay! The postman delivered it this morning!!

Very nicely painted and weathered. I am sooo going to try and preserve all this. Don't think I could do any better.

Also; Booh! The postman managed to break it!!

The victims; MG mount, visor cage, one exhaust and a hubcap... Oh well, I've seen worse...

Plastic upper, but a very nice metal lower hull. I love the HVSS gear, and it seems to work well. And lo and behold; is that a Heng Long gearbox!?

Seems all they needed to do was file a flat side to the drive axle? Sweet...

Some washers were added to the axle, but I think they're not needed...

Some new mounting holes were drilled...

...and the sheet-metal of the gearbox needed a bit of shaving to clear the gearbox cover... But it looks good. Wonder if I can just pop in a TK6.0 and take it for a run...

So, I have a HL Sherman turret going spare from the BARV and Grant build... so there is some transplantations planned in the future. Because.. you know... I really needed another project...
