  • HL / TAIGEN GEARBOXES

Here is the list I come up with for upgrading our gearboxes. If you have tried any of them, please provide your inputs. Thank you!

    1. HL Ultimate Edition II $65
    2. HL CNC Dual $175
    3. Taigen High Low 4:1 $68
    4. Taigen Middle Low 3:1 $62
    5. Taigen V3 (Premium 7:1) $80-$90
    6. Taigen Series III Premium $51
    7. Walterson $80
    8. Mato $72

I personally have the 3 HL ultimate II.
For my Taigen tanks, I run them a lot. The gearboxes became very hot. So I want to upgrade their gearboxes to the V3 or the High Low. Any suggestion?
And any comment on the Mato?
Which one do you think great for the price?
Kindly let add in if I miss any other gearboxes!

If you have a metal chassis taigen tank, I would opt for the stock 3.1 taigen tranny. As I said in the other thread, taigen trannys are geared slightly lower then the henglong.
Your motors will get hot. So hot you can’t touch them if your driving hard. Unless you melt something, don’t worry about it, that is how they expend energy.

Mato trannys are geared low, and don’t fit in many tanks. Also, their quality control is terrible. I had some in my mato Shermans which I eventually disposed of the tanks. The trannys gears would wobble on their axis and were super loud. Poor quality on 2 out of 3 sets I had.
